Better then nothing!
Depending phone, their are packages for Camera Pro to do night shots and longer exposures, should be able to do 15secs on a tipode if you do.
 
Those ones are about 56 to 65 second exposures.

In backyard middle of city , during full moon.

I need a proper tripod and to get out into the country to really get a feel for what it can do.

The new pixel 4 can apparently do up to a 4 min exposure.

I am trying to find a place with decent sightline and somewhat dark sky to see the comet.

It will be getting higher in the sky over next few weeks so hopefully that will help.
