food Atomic Buffalo Turds

The most commonly asked for appetizers I make.
Typical recipe---
slice a Jalapeno in half, to make two canoes
remove membrane and seeds, ( or not, your call)
stuff each canoe with a mixture of pulled pork, monterey jack, Cheddar, and swiss ( or any cheese mixes you like)
now wrap with bacon, if you are careful, you can make it so the bacon finishes under the pepper and the weight of the pepper will keep it in place on the smoker
now ( ya you guessed it) smoke em' till the bacon is done
some variations would be to use chicken chunks instead of the pulled pork, ( now the chicken reaching 170 degrees is how you know they are done)
I have done shrimp, crab, lobster mixed with pineapple, brisket ( when smoked barbecued right) prime rib, baby back rib meat, you starting to get the idea? Have fun with it, it's food!!!
using maple bacon adds a twist, mess with the cheeses as well, I have also done this to Habaneros, but you could go nuts and use Trinidad Scorpion ButchT peppers if you like.

Looks awesome thunder!! How about a plated pic?

Check the popper thread. This kind of dish happens all the time, always with amazing results!
You may find some new inspiration!

Welcome to THP! Keep it comin. I can only imagine how awesome those were!

I've done the same type of thing with chorizo and sharp cheddar stuffing the pepper and then wrapping with bacon. I just grill them and they're pretty popular. I do like your name for them much better though. Beats the crap out of 'grilled poppers'- I'm stealin' it!!

Yeah JT, or "I hate tequilla"!!!! I sure ate the whole dish of that one!

Welcome Thunderbelly! I can't wait too see what else you cook and what you call it! ;)

Hey Thunderbelly! We kind of "borrowed" you name (ABT) but my wife made them with Habanaros. She put brown sugar in them, then a whip of cream cheese, cheddar, cotija. Wrapped them in bacon and she called the Atomic Unicorn Farts.
She only made 4 :( because we only had 2 habs left. (there's pics on the Drunken Chef).
Thanks for the name, you deserve the credit!

Those are some of the best I've ever seen! I like a "chew" to my bacon with poppers (has to be good thick-cut though, looks like it is), the crunchy bacon is for breakfast and sandwiches.... so I don't think you pulled them off early at all!

I think they look perfect.

And I do prefer the term poppers even if it is not correct. :)

OK OK I will do my damedest to make it out.. As long as some one has a smoker.. I perfur a tregar or how ever you spell it. I will bring a grip and we can toss them in...

Thanks guys..

ABTs (the name has been around for years), these are a regular favorite among my cigar herf group. This summer, I am making them with a variety of scorpion peppers I am growing. Will be fun.

Yeah I know, but I don't like poo-named food. It wouldn't make it onto my menu. Neither would the Chocolate Chip Dookie.

One of the local BBQ competition teams I work with cooks about 1000 whenever they vend at a competition and they have sold out every time. They usually stuff them with cream-cheese and a slice of salami.

I cook them from time to time, but I usually do spicy sausage with blue cheese.

My 5 year just learned he likes poppers gotta love that kid. I put sausage and cream cheese in our at home for breakfast. Yummy! Look your pics too.
