All other seeds came from Tradewinds seeds. Kinda stingey with their seeds but I did have close to 100% germ rate last year from them. I will be saving alot of seeds this year and plan to pay it forward in a big way. One more BIG thanks for the help on the seeds. I will edit this list as time progresses to add veggies and more berries.

Got all except those on waiting list above, planted last night, used three 50 cell trays, 3 seeds per cell. For the soil, I used three 12 QT Organic Jiffy potting mix, one 8 QT vermiculite, one 8 QT bag of Perlite and a handful of Mycos mycorrhizal inocculant. I have noticed alot on here have used coffee grounds for nitrogen and egg shells for calcuim, I may do that when i transplant. To be honest this is the first year i havent just gone and picked up some potting soil and planted my seeds.  Always have come up just fine. Curse this forum for teaching me stuff. Heat mats are another thing, I know alot of people on here use them, and i was going back and forth on whether to buy. In the end i went of past experiances, never used them in the past so this year i will not use them either.  Here is a couple facinating pics

A Short Back Story---
Been growing gardens for as long as I can remember. Usually always start my own from seeds. Until last year the peppers that took up space in my garden were the oh so common Jalapeno, Serrano, bell, banana and Santa fe. We have always been big on tomatoes and cucumbers taking up the majority of our limited grow space. Usually only have enough space for about 10-15 plants. I can alot of pickles and peppers every year.  Last year I thought I would try my hand at growing a few superhots and exotics. I found tradewinds seeds and bought some

Red Habaneros
Red Bhut Jolokias
Scotch Bonnets
Aji Brazilian Pumpkin
Scorpion Tounge

My season last year was probably the worst and shortest I have had in a very long time.  I generally always start my seeds in Feb and plant outside May 1. Last year we were working on moving and I didnt get them in the ground until June 1 when we found a place to rent temporarily. The plants did okay but it was new a new place, new ground, and area was more shaded than I had hoped.  All plants produced great pods but getting them to ripen was a different story, I was afraid it was not going to happen. Then the floods came, rain, rain, rain.  There were people that were way worse off than myself during last years flooding, we did ok and were not asked to evacuate or nothin. The plants were not so happy, they started to fall over from so much ground saturation and i think started getting the root rot?. The tomatoes began bursting. All in all I only ended up with a handful of actual ripe pods. I have never tried fresh superhots before. I have always been a chilihead just not a chiligrower per se.  I can say from first bite i was hooked, the smell was something else too. I could smell that all day. My wife or kids did not agree. As you can see I have not tried ALOT of the peppers that I have planted. I have read alot of info on here and built my list accordingly. I have since moved again, I now have more than enough grow room to grow as many peppers as I want, and I plan to do just that.

Thanks for stopping by, stay tuned...and feel free to comment

Edit: Updated to delete varieties that didnt germinate

had a bit of bad luck here recently,

we have had some severe wind over the past few days and with the rain last night the temprature dipped down to 36 degrees.  My OW's are not happy.

This will be my first year growing on the plains of colorado, we are no longer protected by the city and I think the winds are going to be a real challenge this year, it will be a learning experiance for sure

Do the winds come typically form one direction or are they all over the place? From one direction you could easily rig a wind break for the garden. Just a thought.

battling 60-70 mph winds this week, plants in garage have not had much air movement and a few are starting to get edema, hopefully I can set them out this weekend. My plan will be to put them in the ground next week, weather permiting.  The OW i have covered with some buckets to protect them from the wind although most if not all thier folage is gone.  This weekend is supposed to be calm and in the 70's so they will get some fresh light here pretty soon.  Been working on the miniponics and should have it up this weekend to begin cycling. I did decide to go ahead and make some AACT to spray on the plants this weekend but I'm not sure its going so good

I filled up a 5 gal bucket and let it off-gas for 24 hrs

the instructions on the tea..(in short) said to throw the big bag in and squeeze it a bit then throw in the "activator" pack

12 hrs later this is what it looks like

no bubbly goodness, no frothy mess???

This is my first batch of tea I have ever made and I have a few questions......
Will temprature effect the tea? (got down to about 45 in the garage last night).
If no froth, does that mean tea is no good?
how long should i wait for froth?
If froth does show, and say I dont use all 5 gallons on the plants how long will this tea stay good for?

I had that happen on my first batch and someone, don't remember who said to pull up a hand full of green grass, having some roots attached a plus, and toss it in. Next morning I was foaming at the bucket so to say.

Looks good thanks for the update. I'm doing the same thing this weekend. Had some of the same questions about the brew. I have read somewhere sometimes foaming doesn't mean anything. Don't know if that's true. I'm using humus, worm casting, molasses , myco. We shall see. Keep us up to date. Maybe put it in the sun. I think some one said they did that and it foamed. Wish I had more. Pepper guru does some cool teas. Might check him out. Good luck brother.

Good morning BB81. Was curious how the tea came out? I started some last night. We shall see.
Hey Chuck,
No change with the tea, We were ereally busy this weekend, we have been doing some landscape work at the house and the wife and me layed about 9 pallets of sod over the weekend. The tea is actually still brewing i have not touched it, I did check on it again last night and it still looks the same.....no foam. The temps in the garage did get alot warmer but i didnt add any grass to the brew.  I was actually thinking what I may do is pitch this batch and brew up a homebrew tea of my own.

I guess this is the back breaking time of year. Hope to kicks off. I'm going to the hydro shop today. There is a guy there that knows his teas. I'll ask him if there's any tricks before throwing it out. Started mine last night around 7. Will post update when I get home.

Are you still using goldfish in your aquaponics or are you stepping it up a notch?  My romaines are ready to harvest and I even have roots growing down my stand pipe all the way into my sump tank XD. Leafy greens are amazing in there.

I sent away for the free stuff from Extreme, I didn't really foam well, and my temps are in the mid 80's to 90's.

I've been playing (that means I don't know what the hell I'm doing), and I get the best foam using a baseball sized piece of dried cowpie crunched up ( we have cattle, if 2 counts) and a similar amount of dried molasses.

I stopped by the grow shop. The guy said maybe temp and or air might be the problem. He also said in my case to add Myco last. About 2 hours after I start pump. So everything mixes well. He said not to let it ferment. I came home and had no foam. Sun had gone down and water was cool. It must have foamed at some point today because the clean lid was covered in stuff.

I went ahead and used it. We shall see. I guess I need to go read http://thehotpepper.com/topic/32001-beginners-guide-to-aactcompost-tea/ again. Sorry I couldn't help.

Goldfish in the miniponics, not sure the species I will use on the larger aquaponics but yes i will be stepping it up. There is a fish farm about 30 miles away that has ALOT of different species. This being the first time with the larger system I will probably just go with the Tilapia

thanks for asking for me...it does look like it foamed. I think I'll just use mine on something else (I've had it going for almost a week now) and make another batch from a recipe I found in that same link a while back.

I just use Bushdoctor, http://www.foxfarmfertilizer.com/index.php/item/bush-doctor-microbe-brew.html

it's $27 a bottle but I use a half cap full and get good foaming on it...I look at it as turning less than half a teaspoon into almost five gallons of microbes and I'm positive it will last me all season.
Thanks...might have to look into this!

In other news...had a few minutes last night so we got the miniponics up and started cycling

That is so cool. I'm going to start another batch tonight just to experiment. Going to try 2 1/2gallons since I only have a single air pump. More air in less volume and see if that works. Thanks for the update.

Just checking into see how the garden is growing. Have been wondering about the OWs. I hope they made it. Was also wondering how the pickles and salsa turned out?

thanks for checking in. Been real busy just got off working night shift for two weeks. So the plants have been put on hold....good thing with the cold snaps we've had. I actually has some time this weekend to start on the garden. Rented a tiller and got about half way through when it died on me. So Ill give it another go and should finish this weekend.  I was able to get several bags of leaves from THP member catherinew and am picking up loads of horse poo on my way home from a local farmer. The batch of tea I brewed up i did end up throwing out and I plan to start another batch this weekend, if all goes well..ill give them a nice dose once they are in the ground.  The miniponics is still cycling and Ive been having some troubles getting high PH i think its the water out here cause i starting to have the same issue with the fish tank inside. As far as the OW go...the red bhut is coming back and starting to look promising. the tabasco ended up dying so i replaced it with a Zimbabwe Bird Pepper...one of my favorites. Here are a few pics and Ill get some more this weekend once everyone is in the ground!!

Sounds good brother. That plant will come back strong . Sorry to hear about the pH issues. Looking forward to the ground pics. Get some rest and take care if that back sounds like you're going to need it. Have a good day.
