I got these couple of weeks ago. The "Big Cranky's" (9.5%) and the"Little" ones. The "Litttle Cranky's" I got before, I think were their (blue can) Session IPA (4.5%?) and they sucked. They had a different "Little Cranky" at the store today (green can) that was like 6.8%. I'll grab it next time. For now, these big ass pink cans are the schnizzle, lol

You're tongue can only really detect IBUs up to about 70, so anything above 70 IBUS is pretty much pointless.

If the fruit loop shit you are referring to are New England IPAs, then you would have to be the only person on the planet that doesn't like the style. I have shared Treehouse, Other Half, Aslin, and Bissell Brothers NEIPAs with beer haters, and beer lovers, and everyone agrees that they love the NEIPA style.

I'm a fan of IPAs in general, including West Coast IPAs, which are typically super piney, resinous, and bitter. I just haven't had one that I would prefer drinking over the heavy hitter NEIPA brews over in our area if the country.
 
My guess is Mike is  referencing the Boss's  Green Tea Watermelon  brew and maybe the Grapefruit Radler I posted the other day.    
 
I would love to see both of your reactions to a Cinnamon Cardamom Tripel, I tasted over the weekend.  The belgian yeast gave it a real tropical fruit  taste with the spices  and bottle conditioning it almost had a fruitcake vibe.

 :rofl: No, I like them! I think I might prefer the West Coast styles better, that's all. You've gotta remember, I've only been getting "crafty" for like a month or so, haha. Occasionally, in the past, I'd order an IPA at the bar, but I've been a Beck's guy my whole life ;)

Sure was ;) Not trying to knock Treehouse :seeya: (I know a lot of you guys like that stuff), but that "Alter Ego" one I had last weekend was just way too fruity for me. That's the ONLY beer of theirs I've had though. Citrus, I like. Tropical, in small doses. Those "Big Crankys" I was drinking last night were great. Kinda bitter, with juuuuuust enough tropical notes so you know it's in there, but not overpowering.

Ashen, you're quite familiar with Collective Arts beers. The two that I've had from them were the State of Mind session IPA, and the Ransack the Universe DIPA. Loved them both! I guess I'm looking for more stuff that tastes similar to the Ransack. How would YOU describe those? (Maybe I'm just not putting it into words right)
 
You prob need to find the hops or combo u like. If you liked that beer than that might be a clue. Just like peppers some hops can be super fruity and others not. Of course there is a lot more to it but that's a good starting point.
 
You should brew your own. I've gotten to the point now, where I can say that many of my HB beers are definitely better than just about anything I can buy at a beer store that is mass distributed. It's cheaper to brew beer than buy it, of course there is a lot of work that goes into it as well. I actually enjoy that aspect, though.
 
HB nut brown ale. I brewed this over the Winter. It's not my favorite style, due to the maltiness, but man it's silky smooth. I brewed it, because my Uncle was hyping up British ales, since he used to have an office in London, and travelled there frequently for work. I brewed this traditional nut brown ale, and a traditional oatmeal stout, and gifted him bottles for Christmas. This beer has held up well in the bottle, especially since I brewed it towards the end of last year.

The comment on that page Pine, Resin, Orange, nails it. Very drinkable big beer, more piney and dank than juice bomby like other Other Half. Ha. Other Other Half!

I definitely agree with that! Green diamonds would be a perfect fit for what Mike likes in a beer. I think Forever Simcoe would be another brew from OH that would fit that profile.

Speaking of Aslin, if you score some extras of that Berliner they're releasing I'll send some more Narrow Gauge ;)

Oh shit, I wish you would have let me know earlier. That Berliner is the (.)(.)

I've been stranded at my house most of the day, since I'm in the process of selling my car, and buying a new car. The Mrs. took her car to work. I was thinking of walking down there earlier today, but I decided that walking there, and carrying back cans in 95 degree temps would be a terrible idea. In hindsight, I should have dropped my wife off at work with her car, then picked her up...but then I wouldn't be able to drink while smoking these ribs.

Let me know a few days in advance if you have any requests, and I'll do my best to score you some cans. I should have my new car within a week anyway, so you kind of caught me at an odd time.

FYI, Aslin does almost all of their releases on Thursdays, with an occasional Saturday release.

 Thanks guys. Those both definitely look like they're right up my alley. I'll be on the lookout for those :cheers:

I looked up that Ransack beer I like on Beer Advocate. One of the comments in the reviews said something like, "It's got a great aftertaste like biting into an orange, peel/rind and all. Try it sometime and you'll see what I mean" :rofl:

I was just talking to my buddy about that last weekend. He seems like he's interested in starting to brew his own too. I've got a lot of research and homework to do before I dive right in, but if I actually go for it, I'll definitely let you guys know :party:
