beer Being Crafty

Theres actual oyster shells crushed up in it.

It's quite possible I just saw it on a menu and didn't have one but I thought I did. But I don't recall a briny stout. Shit it seems some brewers don't just use the shells but actual oysters.

Magnolia Brewing in San Franciso is a veteran producer of the style, and I recently spoke to head brewer Dave Mclean on brewing the beer:

“We started out using just the shells, like some other brewers do. But, by the second batch we were adding whole oysters to the boil and letting them open, spilling the liquor into the wort and cooking the meat a bit, too.  We were using a bushel (10 dozen) local Hog Island Sweetwaters, but this last batch we upped it to two bushels (though we opened and ate quite a few during the boil, too). I really like the subtle brininess that the oysters add to the stout. As a base, we use a fairly dry stout, around 6% abv.”

Here goes nothing. It's time to tackle the triple.

This is a beer brewed with mosaic, cascade, Amarillo, azacca. Massive fruity flavors hit right off the bat followed by sweet pine taste that's really pleasant and begs you to take another sip. The alcohol is really well hidden...it's really hard to believe this is a twelve percent beer. There's an aftertaste of fresh cantaloupe and guava.

I dunno bout this one. Very oaky Smokey and boozey. No real chili flavor to be found. Some restrained heat coming in at the end. Not really a fan. To roasty/burnt for me. You guys ever tried it?

Saw another at the store I might check out.

The Bruery makes some fantastic barrel aged sours. Keep an eye out for some of those, since you are a sour fan.

Look at the face on that dog. Ain't he cute?

Sure does look like the Lucky dog now that you mention it. I've heard good thing about Romeo y Julieta. So far my favorite has been Tatuaje reserva petite
