The closest hydroponics stores are an hour and 2 hours away, which isn't a huge deal but there are also fairly overpriced from what I have seen, does anyone know of a good online hydroponics dealer.

To be honest it is hard to say. From what I have found in the past it is a mixed bag. You might find your nutrients cheaper on one site but the grow light cheaper on the site that had the higher priced nutrients. I had a pretty good experience with these guys but you might find some of the items cheaper at other places. Hopefully others have some better information. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I like Hydro Gardens. They are nice to talk to and will give you advice on real world crops not "herb". They have been in biz since the 60's.

For home gardeners, like me, they recommended the tomato formula, because I was growing tomatos as well as peppers. My peppers really love it.

www.americanag.com/ is really good. They have free shipping on all nutes, which can cost a ton in shipping. Their other stuff is reasonably priced as well, you just may have to pay shipping. I ordered the VitaGrow powdered nutes one 1lb. box of combo (1/2 grow, 1/2 micro) was only $4.95, and I also ordered a 1lb. box of bloom @ $9.95. I really like the VitaGrow nutes as they are plenty and pretty cheap too with great results.

Tomatos and Peppers are in the same family of plants- they are both nightshades, and are related. While peppers can do with less nutrients, tomatoes can't. If you are growing tomatos and peppers in hydro or by using fertigation, and are on a budget you can just get the tomato formula and use it for both. Your peppers will love you and produce like crazy.

Agreed. Some good ideas on "how to" hydroponics but prices are like 4-5x more than those who don't cater to the weed growers. Of course it takes me about 3 months to find suppliers who don't cater to pot growers.
What? I can't say I've had that experience. Weed growers would have to be one of the most advanced horticulturists out there. Even PhD in botany will tell you that.
Don't get confused with the backyard startups that just pump out heaps of crap for a quick buck.
Tomatos have been genetically engineered by North American farmers to produce huge crops quickly. Chiles really have not had much GE as they are a traditional food where they are grown and don't, as we all know, produce huge crops quickly. Tomatos and chiles have very different nutrient requirements as a result.
I didn't say they weren't good horticulturist. I said sites that cater to them charge 4-5x more than those who cater to those who grow other stuff. On hot to, they're great.
Just because you have more dollars than sense and can dump crap other than metal salts in your reservoir doesn't make you "one of the most advanced horticulturists out there". What did you get your PhD in, Cheech?
Ahhh, over here I've found hydro shops who cater for the weed market have the best prices by far. Mostly eBay stores because a lot of states have spastic rules that shut down a lot of hydro stores.
