Is it me or have kids lost the ability to have any common sense? I don't wanna go off here, but hell I grew up watching all sorts of stuff on TV that common sense told me would be to dangerous to try myself. The world has grown too protective of kids by making everything safe and sterile and controlled. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see a kid get hurt, but they need to learn somehow. They don't seem to be able to function when they get to the real world because they have lived in these perfect little bubbles. Im just gonna shut up because I think I could go on for days here.........
I agree with you in the most part, in regards to kids being rapped in cotton wool far to much, but I spent my younger years in the 80's and early 90's (I'm 30), and the things we saw on TV and read about weren't (mostly) adventure sports that can be life threatening if even the smallest thing goes wrong.
But in saying that, my brother and I used to get on our billy carts (un supervised) at a young age and ride flat out down the ruff and semi steep hill through the trees. We got hurt a few times but that taught us not to push it that far next time...
We also had a flying fox set up over a big gully, and at the middle we could fall 5 metres.....but we never did...cause we were holding on for dear life....
It's just all a matter of society changes....weather it's good or bad.......
I have my experiences that my kids wouldn't think of doing, and at the same time, my father remembers riding his push bike down the main street of Newcastle NSW, with a rifle over his shoulder....Which I would have spent many nights in the slammer for the same thing at the same age (early 90's), or got shot.
Slightly off topic......but you get my point.....hopefully
