Every since I can remember I've had Black Eyed Peas for New Years. They're supposed to bring you good luck in the New Year. This may just be a Southerner thing I don't know. But I've never done without 'em !! Some years in my life have been so bad I'd hate to think what would have happened without them !!!
Mine are way different than what Granny started me off with . I don't really have a recipe for mine. If I have Ham left over from Christmas .. in it goes. If not Andouille sausage or some times both ! Beside those I use onions , bell peppers , garlic , hot peppers like Jolly Penos or some other of choice. I use a Creole type of spice mix in it. I use chicken broth instead of tap water too.
We always make cornbread to go with this. Can't wait .......
Anyone else do something like this ?
Peace & the Best to ALL in the New Year,
P. Dreadie
