Bob65 2018 GLOG

I thought I would give this grow log thing a go.

It is winter here now, so I have bought a grow tent and some lights and will try and keep some plants alive until I can get them outside once it warms up again. Keeping them alive may be a big ask because inside my house has historically been where plants go to die.

Anyway, a while ago I bought some seeds from ebay, before I had any idea about ebay seed sellers. Since then I have done some searching on this seller, and he seems legit. Also sells through a website. I guess only time will tell if the seeds I got are the ones that I wanted.

So, I decided to plant some chilli cha cha (from the ebay seller) and some orange habs harvested from my plants last season. I chose these because I figured it would be no great loss if they didn't survive, the ebay seeds because they are ebay seeds, and the habs because I have heaps of them. I will be planting some Aji Cito later in the month as well.

So I put some seeds in jiffy pellets and had 100% germination rate. The cha cha within days, but the habs took a little longer.

They have since been transplanted into small pots.

They are only little at the moment but they look pretty healthy to me.

Chilli cha cha.

Looking quite lush in the grow tent at the moment.

Still winter here at the moment, but should only be a few weeks until last frost for the season and can start to move some of them outside.

We have been having some glorious weather, 25°C days but some cold nights down to 0° or 1°. Still drought declared at the moment though, we could do with some decent rain. Hopefully before I start planting outside.

I have some plants outside that I cut back at Winters start and have been almost neglecting them. One of the habs has been pushing out tiny little pods all winter (hot enough to give a little sting when you bite into them, but not much to speak of). Even it is starting to produce some pods a little bit larger.

Sitting at the back door waiting to go outside to play?   ;)

I can't wait for spring myself.
We had a hard frost today to remind me to keep my plants inside , exactly 0 Celsius at daybreak this morning.

Sounds almost the same here. We have been having some beautiful daytime weather, but the forecast for the next week or so says down to 1° or 2° on some of the nights. Historically speaking though last frost is the middle of August.

Update. Couple of weeks since last update.

We were having some glorious weather for a few weeks, +25°C days, 8° or 9° at night. Nearly put some of the plants outside.

Glad I didn't though. Last 3 night have been down to 1° overnight with hard frost in the mornings, and the days have been lucky to reach +15°.

Anyway, things are going okay in the grow tent, growing well.

I may have neglected things a little while I was doing night shift. Got a little bit dry in there and a few are looking a bit sad.

Gave them a good bottom water today and put them outside for a while.

Hope the frost doesn't hang around for too much longer, they need more room. I may need to cull some.

Our weather is just about the same.
Last frost , hopefully , was Monday morning and now the same as yours.
I have slowly started planting out.
Instead of culling , just put them outside and see what happens.

So, Spring has sprung. Hopefully no more frost.

Took the gamble and up potted a few that I have multiples of and am going to leave them outside.

2 x Monkey Face Red
2 x Aji Pineapple
1 x Um Ji Put

Will see how they fare before I put anything else outside.

We had temps down to 1° and frost 3 nights in a row last week. But the forecast for the next 10 days  is for 6° to 10° overnights, so it is a bit of a leap of faith.

The migration continues.

Just 2 weeks out of winter and it was 34°C today. Not the first day over 30 this season too.

Moved the plants that were on the balcony out into the yard under shade cloth.

And repotted another 20 of the babies.

I was going to leave them up on the balcony, but the wind really picked up and was giving them hell so I put them in a more sheltered spot in the shade.

The grow tent is starting to look a bit empty.

Yes. The ones under the shade cloth have been out for a while, getting filtered light most of the day on the patio and 3 or 4 hours direct sunlight in the afternoons, so they will be right now.

The others that I potted today are pretty much in full shade from the shed they are next to, with maybe half hour of direct sun right on sunset.

I repotted the last of my plants and put them outside today.

The grow tent really does look empty now. I am not going to repot these ones, and have already found someone that wants them, they will pick them up tomorrow.

That makes about 60 plants outdoors of 22 different varieties I think. I am not going to keep them all, but I will keep one or two of each and rehome the rest.

The ones that you repotted, is that their final pot-up?

No, definitely not.

The ones in the 20L buckets will stay in them, but not being sure which of the others I am keeping I put them in smaller pots.

The ones I keep will go into larger pots with a few in the ground.
