food Burgers? Hell Yeah!!

Caramelized onions, bacon and american on the left, blackened & bleu in the middle and mushroom & muenster on the right.   A little tomato salad with brandywine and onion from our garden and some hot fries round out the plate. 
 
 
 
Ok, I'll do it here.  A Shifter is a piled high sandwich for the workers getting off of the night shift in Columbia, PA back in the 60's.  These were factory workers, and the sandwich was two pieces of white bread, mayonnaise, a heaping pile of ham (or in my case roast beef), American cheese, lettuce tomato, onion, sweet pickles.
 
 
 
I thought it was because the picture shifted when you took it.
 
Perhaps, it is something of local legend here.
 
To me the keys are a thick portion of meat, lots of mayo and the sweet pickles.  That is what makes a great shifter.  There is a place here doing it right.  Next time I go there and get one, I'll post a pic.
