The next level of GROWING

Two years of growing by the seat of my pants/ lady luck/ defiance of Murphy, whatever you prefer to call it. That is essentially what I have done, and to some degree gotten away with it. Not totally without problems, both caused by myself of course and then some not to my credit.
It is what MOST other growers start out doing. And while some continue down that path, others evolve as the addiction takes hold and make changes, sometimes sooner than others.

This year, with over 300 starts at various stages in the dirt. I am taking a more serious look at growing hot peppers. I am looking at things I never considered when starting or for the most part, due to ignorance, didn't care about. Of these things, one is my tap waters pH. I just always used what I had. plants were green so all was good. Having recently invested in a pH meter (partially because my aqua or hydro endeavor is not far away) I have checked my available water source and found that direct from the tap my pH is 7.5, not the end of the world high but I want to get it down to 6.0- 6.5 range. The immediate problem is TDS. I am at 480 on the 700 scale and I haven't added anything yet. Taking into account that when I start my regiment of organic nutrients the TDS will be above what I want at least for my younger pepper plants and maybe even the mature ones as well.

The local grow shop to the rescue.
I have been told to bring in a couple 5 gal containers and they will set me up with RO water, as much as I need free of charge.
In the mean time, I'll have to get a gal or 2 from the grocery store to conduct a slurry test on my old MG potting soil and make up my first batch of Wicked Brew. Hopefully the worst of the salts have been flushed out of the potting soil from all the rain we got last year.

This is like starting growing all over again!

I guess, I am once again, a newbie :shocked:

I will also be using the NECTAR FOR THE GODS line of nutrients exclusively for this years grow.

Thanks bro, Yeah, I'll watch out for that bump. Hope you got the nutrient issue under control. It sucks when you work so long and so hard getting these plants to grow to a decent size and then something Murphs them.
Once they all have germinated I'll start isolating them for individual pics.

Started feeding the nutrient line Saturday and again yesterday. Now that I know where my pH and TDS are at, I have a whole new picture of my grow and what it is doing.

This is going to be a good year. Great year.

Don't forget about rain water! My rain water is usually less than 5 ppm. Just adjust the ph and your as good as RO. It will save you a trip to get the water and it's also free!

And holy shoot that's a ton of peppers.

With distilled water and my neuts, my TDS runs about 480ppm. I'm sure that will go up this late summer and fall when I start pumping rocks into the peppers.

Hey, Thanks John.

I regret to say this may be the last year I do something this crazy without better hardening off arrangements. I may have to limit my grows to 100 or so and focus my concentration in more specific areas. We'll see after this growing season comes to a close.

They are, indeed! As are my plants grown from the seed you sent me. I'm going to update my glog this weekend and make a point to show off those plants. One of the mystery varieties didn't germinate, but the others look great!

I also had issues with the dark colored Mexican acquisition seeds. Will attempt a large germination group to get at least one at a later date. I got my hands full right now.

Finally! The sun was brutal but I managed to get 180+ pepper plants in the ground. That is roughly 2/3 my grow. Tracking the storm system that is supposed to hit here in the early AM. If it goes to the north, I may get the rest in tomorrow.
