Cappy's 2015 Chocolate BS

It has been several year since I have started a grow log like a newb but I enjoy this time of year starting plants.  My name is Cappy and I first discovered the Seven Pod in a seed trade from Sara R. in Trinidad in 2008.  That year I had a grow log and documented my grow of an extra brainy seven pod and the Brain Strain 7 Pod was born.  Since that time I have shared seeds with anybody and everybody who asked for little more than the cost of shipping.  I did not try to profit or chase the world hottest title, that goes to CARDI and the creator of the seven pod.  I am just a grower of limited means with a closet with a grow light and a backyard in a residential neighborhood.  What I am is proud of my contribution to the pepper community and the opportunity to shared this pepper with the rest of the world.

Last year I received some seeds from a very generous Trinidadian friend here in the states by the name of Judy.  I have dreams on making a chocolate version of my yearly hot sauce BrAiN sTrAiN.  There have been both red and yellow versions in the past so 2015 will be the year of the chocolate BS.  First round of seeds were sown last weekend January 4 and today I have my first seedling so here we go!

Wow! Look at all those choc Brain Strains. I'm jealous. Those plants are looking great and growing like weeds. I look at your big beautiful plants and then look at my little hooks and sprouts and it gives me seedling envy lol. Hope everything continues to grow and go great for you. Man I can't wait to see some sexy chocolate Brain Strain pod porn this summer.

You think they might get some outside time this weekend?

I will shuffle those outside any chance I get that is why they are in those trays.  I put them under my patio table and get just the right amount of indirect light to harden up.  Hope for an early spring.  You can see even with my best effort under the T5 HO it can't compare to the plants under the HID.  I really don't know how some here get those great looking plants under floros, but my HID metal halide is my secret weapon to growing strong roots.  Thanks guys!

Those plants look very happy! Did you find anything out about tshirts?  I saw that you talked to your designer, but wasn't sure if I missed the outcome of that conversation.

I did ask about a t-shirt and they are working up a few designs with the logo.  It is a process in that I will have to go back and approve the shirt color and logo placement before final ordering.  We will get t-shirts this year, the big question is how many and what size.

We're just on different schedules (said like a Brit said-ules:).

We get a few days (4-5 this time) of 50's in the AM and high 70's low 80's, then it gets cold for a few days. A great time to start the hardening process.

Your time will come ;)

That's right, Scott.  Patience is the only solution.

GREAT LOOKING PLANTS CAPPY!!!

Hi Cappy! Finally found your 2015 glog and caught up with your first 6 pages. Thanks for the tip of keeping the lights on 24/7 for the first few weeks to minimize temperature fluctuations. I move my seedlings down to an unheated cellar when they've fully germinated. Up to now I've set the lights for 18 on/ 6 off, so the new lighting schedule will help give them the best possible start.

I agree that everything you can do to stimulate root growth early is necessary for a good crop. I couldn't afford to keep a MH light going down there... those fixtures are pigs! I seem to get similar results with flouros by bottom-watering with "rapidstart" nutes and mixing kelp granules with the Pro-mix and using two four foot T12 and one four foot T8 bulbs for light. Maybe it's the light intensity rather than the type of source that makes the difference?

Good luck with your grow this season, and keep up the good great work!

Hey Rick thanks for following my grow! I haven't noticed much bigger electric bills while running a metal halide, it stays on only 12 hours during the day.  I admire you growers who can grow nice looking plants under just florescent lights, the difference is night and day to my plants.  My MH bulb say it is 36,600 lumens full spectrum light and the growth I get under the light is worth every penny.  The heat given off my the lamp would be an added bonus in your unheated cellar.  I have a large box fan that sits outside my grow room that blows fresh air in never getting over 75F under the light.

On a different note I don't know where my grow is going to take place this year.  My wife is house hunting and I am looking for some property with plenty of room to expand my garden.  I can't have a running grow room if I am showing my house and need to keep the plants to a minimum.  I have a back up plan for my plants to keep them alive if I cannot take care of them.  Always something. :banghead:

Wow, I really hope everything works out for you. At least, worst case, you have a backup plan to keep everything alive. Hopefully you'll find a place that suits your needs for space and such quickly. And yeah I'd say those lamps are worth every penny, you have some damn fine looking plants there. I can't wait to see them all loaded down with beautiful chocolate brain strains. You're going to need warning signs with all that heat, probably be able to see the heat signature from space lol

Hey, Cappy, here's hoping you can get the house situation
settled ASAP so you can regale us with another fantastic grow!

Picture update of the plants I put in solo cups on February 6 and have had a nice growth spurt in just 10 days.  My light runs 12 on/12 off so in the dark half of the time.  Lots of air circulation keep the temps in my closet in the low 70's, the heat radiating from the light warms the soil and the plants simulating springtime weather.  I have the first round of plants sitting in a south facing very sunny window ready to go outside and another tray of seedlings with just their cotyledons showing.  I have a seed starting problem and my name is Cappy!
