Capsidadburn 2011 Grow

Great pics Mike! You have put alot of thought and work into your pepper garden. The Beni is turning out to be one of of fav peppers  The Yellow Bhuts are monsters :mouthonfire:

Thanks Alphaeon and RedTail!

Well tropical storm Don was a dud and everybody in Texas is most unhappy about that. Another scorching week goes by while I nurse my plants along. Just nibbles today for podage.

Here is a plant, Gambia, I grew last year that was productive late last year. At first I wasn't sure if it was even a chinense as I was fooled by the smaller leaves. The pod shape is not like most that you can see at CCN or the Database. The Chiliman database does have a pod like mine but mine is red. I dried and made powder last year and love the flavor. Great day to all, Mike

Had to share this Mantid pic as well as a couple others. The mantid is eating a ladybug with a mouthfull looking at me. Two weeks ago this same mantid ignored two ladybugs on the plant stem opposite side of him. Pic was blurry so I did not put it up. Can't tell if it has a guilty look or threatening look. This mantid has been on this plant for more than a month now. Update; This mantid must have died from eating the ladybug, never saw it again.

We have reached 50 days over 100 degrees. We are on course to break a 1925 record of 69 days. Had 68 in 2009. I think instead of hopeing for rain I will wish to break this record and maybe rain will come and deny the record. Update; this record was shattered this year with 90 days over 100 degrees.

I pulled 8 of these hornworms off my plants in the last two days.

Time to put up some new pics since it has been awhile. At the end of the first week of Sept the night time temps dropped by 10 to 15 degrees and most of the plants responded well. It is now much cooler and we actually had 2 inches of rain last Sunday. We are at 11 inches of rain on the year now, down around 23 inches from this time last year. Here's a few pics, Mike.

Later Folks

Mike,

I really enjoyed reading through your whole thread.
Very helpful to me, as being just a few miles down the road
I will have similar growing challenges this coming year.
Hopefully not.... but...

Wonderful ideas, great raised beds, love the shade cloth set up,
most of all I enjoyed all the great photos of the wonderful plants!

Thanks Smiter, Very nice thing to say.

Here are two pics from this week;

My favorite pepper this season is BGH 1725. Great punch in the mouth heat and bursting flavor. The aroma and heat can overpower others in the room. For such a small pod it gets my vote. Last year the Cumari do Para was probably my fave. Here they are side by side. The Cumari has a dark green unripe pod and the BGH 1725 is light green. The Cumari is more of a compact bush and the BGH 1725 wants to grow more vertical. Both are about the same size pod, ripe color(off yellow), flavor and heat.

Here is a nice cross that came from seeds collected from Douglah pods. Other pods on the plant have been more red.

Internal view; tastes just like Douglah and every bit as hot. Thicker skin

Thanks WC. There are a couple of cold nights coming (36-34F) and I will protect a few but they should pull through till a colder one comes. I am sure I will be caught with and lose some green pods at some point.

Thanks again, Mike
