Carolina Reaper (HP22B) Community Grow

A few members including myself are growing seeds for this variety ASAP. I and a few others here on THP thought it would be fun to have a "community glog" strictly for this variety, a fun thread about the HP22B and growing this pepper for the first time.

I think we should start a community glog like this anytime there is a new pepper with alot of attention and alot of people growing it, possible world record holder or not. It would be fun, and this should be fun! That's why we all love this hobby is it not?

Therefore, this will be a drama-free, controversy-free, fun glog for all of us growers and others to enjoy. If you grow, please chime in. If you're growing this variety, please post pictures and chime in about your observations.

Again.. This thread is ment to be fun and informative, but mostly fun :)
Please. Pretty please with sugar on top.. lol. Keep it drama-free.
I, and many others would really appreciate this thread to stay that way.

Now lets get to growing!

I went with the paper towel method for this guy just like I have with all my mid-season starts. It is far from my favorite way to germinate seeds but I'm in no hurry this time of year which is why I went this route. I've had the seeds in the paper towel for about a week now on top of my HOT5 lighting closet. The seeds should be showing root tips soon, then they will be visiting some real soil :D

How's it going for everyone else?

Pods will generally have better form and size on the second year provided there OW is successful.

Interestingly this plant has different shaped pods on diferent branches. Bob

A few of my "Coco Reapers" are starting to turn now that we finally got some hot weather. Sorry for the poor pic I'll post a nice one of the pod above when its fully brown. BTW- These bad boys are hot as anything Ive grown.

My overwintered Reaper again. Those petunias are kickin' ass! There are hundreds of flowers on this Reaper and a few tiny pods just beginning to form.

Those are some very nice looking pods but few of them don't look like Reapers.
Thanks! One plant doesn't look anything like a Reaper but are REAL hot though and dark brown. The other has much more Reaper-ish shapes and is lighter brown. REAL hot too. The second generation plants Im growing now came from the lighter brown /better shaped plant. Time will tell what they do-not so long either I imagine 2 months.

Nice, mine is just finally starting to throw flowers. i will be lucky to get a ripe pod off it before first freeze at this rate.

I'm getting a fair amount of variation on my reaper as well. I get some that are smooth, look like habs, then others that have the crazy long stinger on them. A few examples

This was one of the first pods to grow out.

Then some of the other later pods started to look like this

and this

I've cut into a few of these peppers. They have a decent amount of oil and are hot. Felt like hot razor blades in my mouth for about 5 minutes. I couldn't imagine eating one whole.
