Computer help

I need a dos proggie to hack an adminastrator pass for vista..
I tried to install xp pro but its not picking up the drive..that in itself I find odd..it is a HP dv6000 laptop

if you're attempting file recovery, can you connect the hdd from the laptop to a desktop with a spare SATA lead? Otherwise, i suggest a hammer. (limit of knowledge reached.:banghead:)

Any chance of swapping out the hard drive with a spare?

I'd say it would be easier to get the hard drive to work in XP setup than it would be to hack the admin password. You probably just need to install the drivers during the XP install (at the very beginning it says on the bottom "press f6 (i think) to install manufacturers drivers." That's what you want to do, and you'll need the hard drive controller driver on a floppy or a CD.

That said, I know in XP you can delete the SAM file and it will reset the Admin password, but you'll also lose EVERYTHING in your documents and settings folder. So you may as well reinstall Windows. Vista may have a similar thing... But again... It'd be easier to fix that install problem, I think...

One more question: Don't HP laptops come with a system restore partition? Try that?

Umm "system restore" disk or partition usually means 'format the drive & reinstall as it was when it left the factory'

first check that it's being detected in BIOS..will be pressing Del or F2 or something at startup...its probably just trying to boot off the wrong drive.

Seems I need to find a proggie online that will make xp recognise the hd..My buddy lent me a cd(which I am copying) that removes xp and vista user passwords..Anyways thats why I cant install xp.. in bios it doesnt say crap about the hd..Right now I can use it I re-did os..but its vista...Especially now I bought it off the guy for 200.00 last night.thing has a 120 ish gig hd,2 gigs ram duel core 1.7 pentium processor, built in webcam, wide screen moniter...Its going to be my daughtors b-day present
Now to get XP on

heres a pic of my new 200 dollar laptop and no its not stolen just a funny story behind it

XP does not recognize sata drives, that is why it doesn't see the HD. U need to download the drivers, put them on a jump drive and install them during the setup process. Did u check out that website? There is a sticky for the dual boot, a time consuming process that involves a bunch of steps. Do you have an external drive you can load xp onto to see if it is even going to work? Newer technology has come and the old code of XP is not written to recognize the newer hardware. The cd u have maybe xp sp1 and u need the updates u cannot get until u have the xp up and running.

Microsoft has to advance it's software with the new advances in technology. It can't a have a decade of code holding back the speed
of the newest processors and hard/solid state drives. There is always a weakest link and you have to remove it. In other words they are going to jam it down your throats and there will be bumps along the way. Enjoy the RIDE!!!!!!!!

it might do QS...I think best bet is to go to the manufacturer website & download the SATA/RAID drivers onto a floppy. Then when XP is starting up (you'll see it at the bottom of the screen something like 'to load 3rd party drivers press F6 now') so you press F6 & wait while it loads other stuff then it stops & asks you to put the disk in.
A lot of screwing around, but then it can recognise the HDD.
