craft beer

And these too.  The Mountain Standard was really good.  The Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout was okay but I usually don't love oatmeal stouts.  The Parabola was quite a beer.

I just spent $28 for two sixers and feel good about it.  Albeit, one was just Shiner Bock.  I'll have some pics to add to the thread soon.

Nothing wrong with that, when I lived in San Antonio, we used to take the kids to Gonzales, TX. After we dropped the kids off all the parents would head over to Shiner, about 20 minutes away and meet up at the Spoetzl Brewery where they make Shiner Bock.  Take the tour get  your 4 free sample chips and leave with a case or 2 of fresh beer.

Good times :)

Yeah I have been on MANY tours of breweries for the free samples afterward!  Once you have toured one or two craft breweries, they are all pretty much the same, so I really could care less, but it is necessary to get the free samples!

I like Shiner, but at $52 a case I think I may be paying a bit too much for a beer that is cheap in TX.  Shipping can't cost THAT much.

The sad thing about Shiner is it's almost as much as other beers here.  I think it's about $8 a six pack and stuff I actually like usually runs around $9.

Not much news here but here's a few new (to me) beers I've tried in the last couple of weeks.

First is a tasty porter.  Smelled mostly like fruit, chocolate, and booze to me initially but right as I sipped it from the snifter I got a smoky smell.  Tasted better than it smelled imho... chocolate, coffee, smoke, burnt malt.  Good stuff for sure.

Next is another tasty porter in fact it's currently my favorite beer due to it's taste, drinkability, and price.  Tastes exactly as described on label... a nice solid porter with chocolate added.  I open a bottle and it disappears quickly.  At 5.9% ABV and $5.99 a six pack I can find no faults with this one.

Wife picked this one up.  We had read a little bit about Gose and how it was "extinct" for over 50 years but recently rediscovered and gaining popularity among craft brewers and drinkers.  Pretty good.  Fruity smelling almost like a Belgian but didn't taste like any Belgian beer I've ever tried.  Every sip gave me a little burst of coriander near the finish.

Another wife pick.  She was lured in by peppers and Cigar City on the label.  It was pretty good and easy to drink but neither of us could really detect any pepper present in it.

3rd treat from wife.  I don't love Lagunitas in general but I do love their Sucks so I'll always try their beer when given the opportunity.  This was a few weeks ago and I don't really remember much about it at all so I'm assuming it wasn't bad but wasn't something I'd seek out either.  If given the choice I'd stick to Sucks, Hop Stoopid, and Lucky 13 but that's just me.

I had a new one the other day.  Delirium Christmas (not Noel, but Christmas), apparently it is not available in the US and was a gift to my brother from his Belgian boss.  It tasted much like Noel though.  I do have a pic on my phone.  Whenever I get to it, I will edit it in here.

Verloren might be the absolute WORST example of a gose

got a case of it and split it with a friend, couldnt drink more than half of a bottle before i had to dump it

Well it's the first and only gose I've tried and found it drinkable.  I didn't say I loved it.  It sucked ass compared to both porters but I'm willing to bet it's delicious compared to a Magic Hat Saint Saltan Gose (just a hunch).  :P

I'm liking Ballast Point Sculpin IPA with smoked Habanero's. on draft/ growler. Not sure when it comes out. Also if you homebrew my son just made a Smoked Bomb Chipotle Porter (kit from NB) The best I have tried with heat so far.

I'm still giving 95% of my beer money to the fine folks at Sweetwater Brewing.

Their IPA really is a fantastic drinking beer, as opposed to the many overrated ass-tasting beers that are completely unpalatable but adored by the beer snob elite.

So you use an elite beer snob site to explain how good this beer is?  And to make it worse they overrate all my personal favorite ass-tasting IPAs.

I only have 3 favorite IPAs, because I don't like IPAs much.  :P

Well I just gave Stone IPA another try to see if it measured up this time after not tasting it for several years.
Unfortunately, it does not. I am not a fan of beers (even IPA's) that leave my mouth feeling like I just ate a salt lick. It's just too much harsh hop astringency and none of the wonderful fruit flavors (citrus, tropical)and aromas that I love in an IPA.

Maybe I am just in love with the Mosaic, Simcoe and Citra type of hop flavors/aromas and I'm not getting it from Stone.
