craft beer

They say you can't get more than fifty IBU into a brew that's still hot, no matter how much you add ... and that you have to hop-after flame-out to get increases beyond that ... and then it decreases over time too, in bottle, I guess ...

So ... I find it kind of humorous that people would list it ... because a) the measurement is not based on sound science to begin with, b) the amount they put in doesn't really mean it's there when you get it ...

This dude's studied the crap out of it, I guess: http://www.monmouthcollege.edu/academics/faculty.aspx?id=0405052
The level of oils coming from the hops tends to increase though with dry hopping, hop rockets etc, and I think after a point that is what they are adding in, its flavour rather than more bitterness.  Thanks for the link, I will peruse with a glass of low IBU stout  :P

Oh yeah, love both hoptimum and Big Foot, but haven't see the whiskey barrel aged variant here yet.  Tasting notes please!

That's one intriguing beer, 12% sour quad…

I'm game

The funk was all in the bouquet on that one - it really tasted pretty nice ...

As always, the answer in that case is to chug once your in position ... which is great, especially at 12%.

The dregs were like chocolate pudding and I really need to start sampling w/ the inoculating loop ...

Thanks, international beer store here is pretty good at sourcing, so will see how I go. I am going to have to pick up some decent Australian craft beers to show you all too. Keg will run dry soon, so will have a few weeks before home supplies are in stock again

So far seeing some aphids, been pinching them off and they have not inflicted any damage yet.  Good luck with the mites.   I wanted a little time lapse before I try the Cherry Belgian ale….then I am dry till the next beer run.

Going to grab some aussie craft beers on the way home tomorrow night.  It's been a monster week, not quite a GM insanity but intense.  Will share them with you over the weekend.  Well, arguably a bunch of them tomorrow night!

Lindemans I find almost too sweet a sour beer for my liking.
