D3monic's 2015 Glog. Lots of Pods.

I had a great 2014 growing year and can't wait to get started on 2015. Had some issues with overwinters and aphids but I ditched them and nuked the basement. Here is last years Glog link

I just went through and cataloged my current seed list. Built up a bit of a collection over the course of the winter.

Edited seed list to just a drop box file on 1/31/15 CLICK HERE FOR SEED LIST If you have anything on my wanted list feel free to give me a shout.

I will keep this first page updated as I add things to the grow. Many still to get germinated.

Seeds Wanted:

Lemon Habanero
Murupi amarela
Carbanero

i've had that happen ... twice already, i think ...

once for certain ... bad ... the week of constant wind-driven rain spread the BLS all the way down the line, right to the strawberries ...

Took everything, really.

I'm still very seriously considering just growing mine in the shade, w/ reflected light ...

Look at this.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1426647249.895033.jpg

the front one's the control, it's been in a black tupperware ...

the back faded one's have been on the edge of my carport - under roof, getting the reflected light from my neighbors white house ...

i think my plants might like the relative shade ...

it'll be there, or along the westward wall that should only allow direct sun from like noon to 4 based on the house and neighbors tree line ...

we'll see!

You going to do any native wild chiltepens? I think you should, they would be well suited for your weather. Maybe even some thai peppers.

So, I did them all, and they all taste like shit ...

I grew more than a dozen different one's from CCN, coming from every Ft Whatever Base in Texas and shit ...

They do grow well, the bark helps them deal w/ the winds and rain, and they do the perennial bit well too ... but I don't like the taste ... they are all like tobasco pepper style hot, which I don't like ...

I'm growing the only tiny pepper that I've ever had that tasted good, that's what the Mystery Citrus is ...

It's the saved seed from some little orange pods that came from my shop foreman at work, who picked them from a spot in his family's land where they grow wild, I guess ...

I've never seen the plant, only the pods, the whole ordeal w/ the dozen+ others was trying to figure out which it was - and it was none ...

There's been an ongoing hypothesis for the past years that they might be Wild Brazil, so this year I ordered a plug from CCN and am sowing a couple of seeds to grow one (PepperLover seed) to compare w/ the 3x Mystery Citrus I started from seed a few weeks ago ...

The other type that did OK for me here was the habanero ... I had some Mustard Habanero's that I'd ordered from Hirt's that lived all three years the Topsy grow was up ... they got the BLS, but managed to come back from it ... the only plant to come back from it, actually, ever ...

That's nasty shit.

Wild brazil is supposed to taste good, I have the regular and Orange wild brazil that I got from ajijoe a year ago. Mine where planted too late last year to get anything off them but this year i'm growing the orange wild. I've been buying dried pequins from the grocery store and really enjoy their smokey taste. I put them in a pepper grinder and grind as needed. Only reason i'm not growing those is I can get them year round from just about any market for cheap.

I only actually like a couple of fresh pods: TS, Butch T, Thai, Naga Morich, and Jamaican Hot Chocolate ... I like other things powderized, but not raw ...

I really liked the butch t yellow fresh, I didn't like regular chocolate habs but i'm growing them this year along with 1 jamaican hot chocolate as well.

I really like the taste of the reaper powder from JHP, so I probably like fresh reaper too, but I don't know (yet) ...

I mostly only like the citrusy super's, is what it boils down to ...

I hate the raw taste of bhut and especially don't care for douglah - which is what makes the whole Choc. Douglah debacle so hysterical to me ...

I don't like Chocolate Bhut, and I don't like Douglah, so I'm not about to give a fuck about some Chocolate Douglah plants that don't have the TS part that sbaf has bred into his, lol ...

I like reaper powder as well, i'm growing reaper this year so look forward to trying some fresh.. .not eating a whole one or anything but in some food sure. I'm in the same boat. I really enjoyed my mystery hababhut last year and hope my plant grows out similar to the ones I had. Didn't have as strong a floral taste like most bhuts but was hotter than the orange habs it showed up in and didn't have the trademark habanero taste either.

Here's the pod I had saved seeds from. I have 4 going in a 3" pot atm and may save 2

Ugh, ate so much guacamole my chest hurts... been doing that a lot lately. I'm going to be a fatty again in no time.

I can send you some of the orange wild and normal wild brazil if you want or I can seen you some pods off the orange wild this fall so you can try that way you don't have to spend time and space growing them if they aren't what you was looking for.

Another one i'm looking forward to this year is the tepin x limon I got from smileyguy i'll have to look but I believe they was F2

I have to refresh my genetics-fu and figure out the what's what of the seeds I have remaining - but when I next give out Mystery Citrus, I'll make sure you get some ...

If Chris doesn't grow it out, I'll send it to you to grow.

I'm going to give it to a single person until someone likes it, because I think it's good to have a little redundancy in ambassadorship ;)

I liked it that much. It tastes like someone spiked a fruit loop.

The idea is to get it to lots of people, not a few ... and an important part of that is generating interest.

I plan to offer it to FB, filmost, SmokenFire, Jamison, Wayright, buddy, PIC1, tcenten, Essegi, BigB, and any of the other cooking thread regulars - but I have to figure out how to deal w/ the seeds, first, and I don't know how ...

There's probably 40-50x from the original pods ... I have no idea what the right way to handle them now is, plant them and make zillions, but a gen later ... give out these ...

Since I don't know, I'm not doing anything ...

I've heard wild brazil refereed to as having a fruit loops flavor from several different sources. I believe that was one the reasons I sought out the seeds. Chance yours  could be one the cumaris as well or even yellow charapita... there's so many similar looking pods you may never know for sure.

If it was me i'd grow them out for more seeds plus give them out and keep at least 10 of the original seed stock just incase something happens or they accidentally cross and you want to go back to the original genetics.

Yeah, that's what I'll have to figure out, right ...

Some people could get by having two seeds, but some people wouldn't bother w/ less than a dozen ...

How to parcel the original one's etc, I have to sort out, but I gave 10x to JHP, I think ...

Basically nobody's grown it out yet, because it came from pods from the wild, so this is it's beginning in terms of our circle of folks that's happening right now ...

I'd grow a plant out this year if you sent me seeds. You would have to let me send you some as well though Here's my Seed list I would think 3-5 seeds would be enough for most people. I usually send around 10 if I have a lot though. I don't use bubble envelopes, normally I just put them in a zip baggy, fold between two pieces of paper and line with a recycled piece of a bubble envelope that someone else sent me and stick into normal mail with one stamp (mainly cause i'm poor)

Far as I know my seeds have been arriving unscathed to everyone. At least no on has said anything if they haven't. I think that pic I had sent to Tommy

All kinds of stuff I haven't noted around before ...

I don't really pay all that much attention, too, though ...

All kidding aside, I've considered growing only it, and then actually trying to selectively breed it - just because that seems interesting ...
It would be cool to try to grow some that had muted heat and all the flavor ...

Most baccatums that I have tried i've liked. I really like the bolsa de dulce but little to no heat and Paper lantern habs where good. The habs are also one my better growers so far this season though it's a tad early to count. I had topped them early because they was out pacing the others. There's still a lot on my list I haven't tried yet but am growing this year.

If you haven't tried any of the ajis I highly recommend them.  Also CGN-21500 sounds like it may be up your alley and has pretty foliage. I'm growing that and the fidalga roxa. I am planning on crossing White Fatalli and the cgn-21500 this year.

Nigel did some reviews, sounds like it will be a nice pepper

PS - I have no clue which peppers are which species or whatever the types are ;)

usually if i pepper catches my eye I google to see if anyone has done a review of it. specifically nigel, he does the best reviews imo but also tends to get excited about a lot of pepper making my list every growing.
