D3monic's 2015 Glog. Lots of Pods.

I had a great 2014 growing year and can't wait to get started on 2015. Had some issues with overwinters and aphids but I ditched them and nuked the basement. Here is last years Glog link

I just went through and cataloged my current seed list. Built up a bit of a collection over the course of the winter.

Edited seed list to just a drop box file on 1/31/15 CLICK HERE FOR SEED LIST If you have anything on my wanted list feel free to give me a shout.

I will keep this first page updated as I add things to the grow. Many still to get germinated.

Wow. That sucks. Plenty of birds around here, but certainly have not had any issues like that. Hope that is the last of it for you.

first it's happened and they just went around on a rampage. I could see if they ate the peppers but they just tore them up

Pretty impressed w/ the early poddage ... it seems like just a matter of days ago when you were truckin'em in and out by hand ...

lol a lot of them already had some pods on them at that point

Not what I wanted to see today... fcking birds went through and tore up some of my best pods.. got all my butch T yellow including the newly ripe one

Was some nice looking ones too

Caribbean red hab

My crossed pod that looks like it would have been ripening soon.....

Think a little duct tape will hold it over? lol

I had a robin that was long overstaying its welcome right next to the garden, was sitting on her second round of eggs, she got an eviction and tossed 3 eggs. The last babies just left the damn thing. No more annoying squawking at me.

i too hate rodents, freakin squirrels eating my cucumbers last two years!

That sucks. I had a bird trying to build a nest in one of my Pineapple Rocoto containers this year. I'd throw it out and next day a new one would be there. Bird finally left it alone. Here's a pic of one of them.

Well after seeing 4 grackles land and go for the peppers and shooting a robin i've resorted to the least appealing option for me. Annoying ass bird netting. Now it's going to be a pain in the ass to get in at my peppers :(

My mom hangs foil pie pans around her garden and they seem to keep most of the birds away for some reason.  I have no idea if there is any true merit to the idea.

That works, especially on bright days. the birds don't like the flashing glare when they move in the breeze. Anything shiny works, I've even hung polished up soda cans(you can use rubbing compound to remove the paint/color), just hang them from the pop-top ring.

I'm wondering if you took Christmas silver tinsel and tied it around pods at their stem loosely if it would be effective?

Hmm maybe, or the crows would just steal it for nests lol.  Seems like the netting is going to work. I just went and collected some pollen and it wasn't that big a pain to get under.

Thanks very much, I appreciate the compliment.

I had a bird peck on one of my old German tomatoes has a nasty bad spot but is continuing to grow.
Hope they stay away form my peppers and other tomatoes
Sorry that this has happened I feel for ya.

A wren, I had a pair build 5 or so nests in my garage before they gave up.

Birds definitely suck. Rubber snakes and owls/Hawks work. Just have to move them so they don't figure out they're fake.

Lookin' spanky as usual, braj! That amarillo is huge, I had no idea any baccatums got that big. I think that one might end up on my grow list next year.
That sucks about the birds. It's always something, isn't it? It always seems like somebody wants our peppers more than we do. I can see where they're coming from, though. Your garden looks like an irresistible oasis of nature in that ecological desert of a suburb you live in.  ;) If I were a bird in your hood, I know where I'd want to live!

Lol thanks, I do put out food for the finches and there's always a handful of them in the yard. I've seen groups of around 20 golden finches chasing eacother around the yard and at any given time there's at least 3 feeders for them.

Other than the damn angry birds your plants and garden look sweet

One year I tied a black trash bag to a stick and stuck that biatch right in the middle of my garden . No more bird problems .
