Devv-2017-Having a good time in the dirt

Another season has come and gone. Time to start a new one!
 
Although I did already a few weeks ago :shh: . After last years dismal (late) start I jumped in a bit early to insure I could have viable plants come dirt day. I can always cut them back, if I need to. I have to compile a list yet, but I'm growing the full spectrum. Sweets, to supers, based upon what we will actually use. Most of my list is to make LB happy; I'm really glad to see her infuse peppers in more and more dishes. Can't beat that when the wife takes interest ;)

I've been hitting the peppers with foilar applications of Calmag, Seaweed Extract, and weak doses of Epsom Salts. ​I'm starting up the same regimen.  Epsom (1 tsp/qt. H2O) last Wednesday, Cal-Mag and Kelp next Wednesday.  I guess they can be mixed together.  How often are you spraying? They are responding well; so I may pull it off before the heat sets in. I also added Chelated Iron to the regimen; been seeing some chlorosis. Soil test for sure very soon. I found out most of Texas is quarantined from sending soil outside of the state. I guess they don't want us "sharing"...LOL

Pulling a few here and there. Mostly Annuum's; todays pull on the bottom, 2 JA Habs and a B-Goat (early small ones).

Got a decent haul on the taters. This is from 5 or 6 seed taters via Wally World. :D  I have about 6 weeks left of dirt growing...

I wish I could grow peppers as well as I grow maters ;)  We just put 28 quarts of last years tom's in a sauce, less of course when we drained them well. I just have to have the red sauce on hand!

I like to use the calmag @ 1tps per gallon 2 times a week on the maters. The peppers get 1tbls of Epsom salt, 1oz of seaweed extract, 2 tsp of calmag, and now 1 tbls of chelated iron per 2 gallons of water per week.  A 2 gallon mix will hit all the peppers via a watering can; I just wet the leaves. Mainly because of the nute lockout issues I'm having this year. I'm @ 1/4 strength, using the Epsom salts and the chelated iron. Full strength with calmag, and half dose of the seaweed extract. The gals in the pots are on an every two week schedule as I don't see any issues with the way they're growing. They all seem to be really happy since I started doing this. Last week was the first time with the chelated Iron, I used it because I saw signs of chlorosis, and noticed and immediate improvement in the first week
 
 
Just dropped in on what appears to be a masterful glog! You sure know what you're doing, especially with the toms! I might try your way of doing them for my next season....

Nice hauls of chiles and 'maters... Do I hear pasta arribiata or Gulf Shrimp Fra Diavolo? [emoji28]

I appreciate the good vibes ;) I wish I could grow peppers as well as the toms :shh:  They're a bit more forgiving..
The method really works well for me here. I start them 60 days before they're supposed to hit the ground.

Shoot... Guess we knocked off too early with the chant... WTH, join the party Scott. Looks like most of us old-timers had to deal with the "H" word this spring. [emoji14]

Yeah, and all of our umbrellas were in our vehicles.
 
Been here 28 years and this is the third or fourth time it's hailed, only once was it bad. We did miss the 11"s that hit D-town in 96 or 97. I think everyone in town got a new roof out of that one.

We made a mega pot of the red sauce, used 28 quarts (strained heavily) of last years canned maters.
We're putting up the produce, we have plenty of salsa from last season. Really glad we scaled back this year ;)
 
Glad both cars were in the shop, 2 years ago the truck and LB's old ride took $8,000 worth of hail damage.
