Last Sunday we had quite a storm come out of the West 60mph winds, lightning, the works. The fence really saved us, although about 13-16 plants blew over and several more were leaning.

Pumpkin BBG, a nice healthy plant but still no pods, and with our forecast of next week to 100's and plus...I donno.

Annuum's we got, these are Big Jim peppers.

Ripen already! Aji Amirillo's

Anaheim peppers

A few BrainReapers...

This B.O.C. has quite a few small peppers on it..

Aji Limo. The other plant is setting nicely now.

Plenty of Poblano's to be had this season.

The Aji Dulce has been a fairly steady producer.

The P. Dreadie has been a bit stingy with it's pods. I have 3 in pots that got their butts kicked in storms. I'm going to grow them out. The dirt plants have a life of when the ripe pods are done, so are they.

Growdown YBS: So far leading the Chinense in productivity; and I started it 30 days after the others.

Here's the plant in it's 100 gal bag. It is the only plant that was damaged in the storm; mainly because of it's height.

No shortage of Bells this season!

Been steady pulling Gochu pods.

PDN x Bonda White living up to it's name. It's leaning from the storms.

PDN x Bonda Purple.

That was a heck of a rainstorm for sure! What town are you in/around? I'm in Corpus. I'll be buying some 40% shade cloth in the next few days....

Scott, this is amazing!! What great plants and pods! Still jealous of the size of those poblanos... gotta see how big mine come in this year. My big Jim set a pod a few days ago so I’m looking forward to seeing that one go!

Holy moly.. that growdown plant is a monster. 100 gallon pot?!? I have a ghost pepper in a 30 gallon and I thought that was huge.. haha

What kind of soil do you use for the pots? Would be expensive to fill with all potting soil!

Those bonda crosses are just beautiful.. taking note for next years varieties already haha.

These updates are awesome as usual, it’s so exciting to see other people’s plants producing already! As for me I counted 31 tiny little ghost peppers in my biggest plant this morning so we’re well on our way for being just the “beginning” of the NY grow season!

Very nice Scott, those plants are doing fantastic. Quite the little rainshower you had there! Glad it didn't do more damage. I bet the plants loved the water, though!

You ever thought about doing misters and shade cloths to keep them productive a little longer when it gets hot? I was looking at some misters the other day for the high tunnels. They blow out mist and fans distribute it, supposed to cool the ambient air by something like 10 degrees Fahrenheit in the vicinity. That might be enough to keep your plants from dropping flowers when it hits the 100's?

Sheesh, I can't keep up with what I have around here...lol

Actually, we own 20 acres out here. I wish I could come up with a low maintenance crop that would make me some $$$

One thing that loves it out here is Rosemary. That plant was made for the semi desert.

Thanks Frankie! This year has been a good one so far. Soil test and amendments paid of for sure.

I buy potting soil off season when they put it on clearance. I started with close to 30 cubic feet this season, and still have some left I used a 65 gallon last season for the Growdown and it was completely root bound by the time I pulled it, so I figured I'd try the 100.

Wally World screwed up and leaned a $5 sign next the the pallet Pro Mix Organic; I asked if the price was correct and they said yes. Wish I was in the truck, we could only get 5 in the trunk of the wife's car.

Yes, they're pretty cool plants, picked some from the "white" today. I haven't tried one yet.

We are on different schedules for sure. We're canning maters already...they should be done in 2 weeks max.

What’s your favorite pepper of the season so far?

So far the P. Dreadie gets my vote. Just a good all around pepper. Next would be the Scotchbrain and the Zapotec Jalapeno.

The wife saw your post and said "no way! We are not growing all summer.." I feel her pain, we're approaching 36 months of running the garden non stop.

I imagine it would work if we could enclose the garden. The thing is right now we're having 10 hours a day of the high temps.

I'd just love to see it set pods in the heat. If not it will grow until September before it sets again. I have this sneaking suspicion I'll have to raise the netting, now that would be cool

Yesterdays pull. We made a bunch of Chile Relleno's for the freezer out of the Big Jim's and Poblano's.

PDN x Bonda "whites".

The 10 day is not conducive to pod setting. It's a month early, what a crazy year.

Yesterdays hourly temps shows 10 hours of 93° or hotter. Not good.

We shall see...

That’s encouraging about the p dreadie since I picked up a P. Dreadie from the Weaver’s farm a few weeks ago! Looking forward to growing it! Also, how’s the flavor on the Zapotecs? Anything unique about it?

My experiences here are that when we see night time's above 75° and day time's above 95° the fruit no longer sets. This of course is not with all varieties; the Annuum's will continue to set some. I'm some others will too, just not mine..LOL

The Zapotec has a typical Jalapeno flavor, perhaps a tad hotter then others. And the size is perfect for poppers, as per LB
