Devv's 2014- Stick a fork in me, I'm done....

Time for the 2014 start...

Many of these plants were made possible by the generous people of the THP sending me seeds and pods Thanks!

I'm looking forward to warmer weather and dirt day!

I have a bunch of seeds started, and plants at all the stages.

Here's the grow bench, a T8 x4 on top and T5 x4 on the bottom, as you can see it's loaded.

I like starting the seeds in Jiffy Pellets, as soon as they stand up I trim the mesh off and plant them 1/2" proud in a pot, or in this case a cup.

A few plants living under the T5, I'm super impressed with this light!

Nice that things are greening up fast at the old Hacienda Scott... rain is a huge bonus... Things should literally explode into growth now! I hope you're right about the timing of your planting outside. We're minimum 5 weeks out from that, but things often move quickly here after the Vernal Equinox. Cheers!
Hi Rick!

Tomorrow morning is going to be 10° colder than the forecast showed on Saturday, they're talking 35-37° in San Antonio. I'll be out at 4AM and running the wobblers if need be. Made it through 26° a few years ago, and will do so again. Hoping we only see 40°. You never know out here what it's going to do, and I have to push the cold so I can have fruit before it hits 100's. Fingers are crossed!

Holy smokes look at the room to grow peppers! I'm so jealous! Living in the burbs all mine are grown in pots. A beautiful place you have to grow Scott.
Thanks Patrick!

I owe this place to the wife, she caught an add and we scored. It's a way different life here, just not enough hours in a day to keep up!

Good luck.
Thanks Jeff!

Well of course we lost everything we brought, LOL. It's expected and we don't get crazy about it. LB loves to go, she made the blow $$$, I go along for the ride ;)

Great to see your garden filling up Scott!  Looking like a controlled well executed plan.  As much as the weather will allow!  Wednesday mornings wind and Thursday mornings temps don't look to good.  I have a small section ready for in ground Friday afterwork.  Can't wait.

Have a good trip!

Mike
Thanks Mike!

We had a blast!

Don't you love when the forecast changes like it did this week? The winds not an issue with the wind break in place, it does a heck of a job. I don't feel we're going to have a frost, the dew points too low. But I'll be up early to make sure things are going well. I'm as ready as I can be. And glad I only have a few in the ground, about 15%. The 10 day, if it can be trusted, is really looking good. I have the rows all made and will be planting tomorrow after it warms some. Have fun Friday!

Love the cages for weather protection! What are the nighttime lows you're looking at?

Enjoy your trip!
Thanks Adam!

Trip was fun, just a quick 1 day deal.

The lows for tonight are a bit colder than I would like them to be, talking about 35-37°, the Sat. forecast showed 45°, and all week until today 40°.

Those cages I bet are older than you, I bought them in 1982. We're not planting so many tomatoes this year so I figured what the heck. They will help support them as they load up.

Plants in the ground!!! Blooming and looking fantastic too! Great stuff Scott...can't wait to see how your grow looks in two months, going to be freaking ridiculous!
Thanks Shane!

I thought at first I started too early this season, but the most advanced ones are just flowering, so I may have hit things just right. The goal is spring pods this season!

Bump please ;)

Devv what does sunburn look like on small plants? Mine are getting kind of transparent and funky looking.
I didn't harden them off properly and I'm wondering if I should cut them leaves off.

All looking fine Scott... I can see the still-attached pistils on the Szegedi Paprika's baby pods so you can take it as read...  ;)  With having to pay for a new well and another computer for LB, I can understand you not having enough left for the black plastic mulch this year, but try it next year when you plant out under the low row cover... you'll be amazed at how much of a difference it makes... you might even be able to get your plants in the dirt a couple of weeks sooner if you try it. Cheers!

Everything is looking great! And yes, those cages are older than me, but not by much!

Definitely going to try the black rubber mulch when I get my own garden. Right now I play by TLWs rules. Luckily they got a mondo compost pile full of chicken poop that's been aged a year or so. Great organization. Can't wait to catch up with you Scott!

They start with a silver hue and it later browns where it's damaged. Got a pic?

New AC system and well within 9 months put a hurt on us this go round. So much for a new truck ;)

The main reason I didn't use the black mulch was the temps stayed high this season. Next year I'm putting the hoops out earlier and will definitely use the black mulch.

I'm glad you have the community garden, no such thang around here. Kudos on the access to the chicken poop!

Everything's running on rails Scott...  By the end of this month they should have good root structure and be reaching for the sky! Continued success brother!
Thanks Rick!

I think we're through with Ma natures tricks...well maybe one more, I can roll with that!
