Ever seen this happen?

This Brain Strain sprouted with three cotyledons about 7 weeks ago and has been stuck almost completely still as far as growth goes. All of the other seedlings are now 3-4 inch stalky plants.

Kinda weird huh?

3 cotyledons are pretty common...can't say why it didn't continue to grow...I have a 3 cotyledon 7 pot that is almost 2 feet tall...

Yeah, I have read a few posts where people had the 3 cotys, but I'm just confused by the retarded growth. It is hard to tell in the picture, but over the last 3 days it is starting to grow a leaf out of the center, but it is a tiny dwarf looking leaf. Just weird.

sorry to say, but I would just trash it...if it is only that big after 7 weeks, there is some sort of issue with it...and that issue may simply be genetic related...birth defects happen...

It looks like transplant shock, root damage. The leaves look too close to the top of the medium, no stem visable. Did you move that from a seed flat. It looks "drunk" too much water.
As AJ states 3 cotyledons are common. My Coronongs all have three, My Trinidad Green's not only had that but the 1st 3 leaf sets also had three before the plant forked. Not saying you'll have a pepper that resembles a "Beefsteak" tomato if you know what I mean .....
But it is common.
I also agree, trash the seedling, resuse the soil and move on

Well you can perform surgery on it. Carefully dump the guts out of the patient and see if the roots still ticking. Repot into a dry medium and keep the lights flowing.

It happens to me almost every season. I have a few right now that Im going to have to trash. Seriously dont want to, but if they havent grown after a few weeks, they're more trouble than they're worth.

I have a few 3 cotys right now. One died from neglect, another is doing just as well as its 2 coty counterparts, and the third has the similar growth rate to yours. It is starting to catch up again though, so I wouldn't trash it if you don't want to. Just plan on giving it "special" care. :-)

i had a red peter pepper sprout did not have 3 cotyledon just 2 but it stayed that way for over a month until i gave up on it and scrapped it :tear:

Hey I think it would be cool if it just stayed that size forever. It would be a conversation piece for sure if it were that size for years. lol

I've had a bhut jolokia, habanero red, and mourga that had three cotyledons. None of them had the retarded growth. I think it's uncommon to have threee cotyledons.

Well, I have an update and it's not a good one.

The retard is dead. I guess it just couldn't keep on keeping on as it was. I came out today and it was all shriveled up and laying on its side almost like it had no water, but the soil was moist.

RIP my little retarded pepper.

I had one that did the same thing...I dug it up before it died and it had done a complete loop before sprouting, so it had a kink in its hose so to speak. Neither the roots or the stem ever did much.

I have a Cajamarca with normal cotyledons that has not grown at ALL for 2 months....I guess we shall see how long it wants to live like that?! lol
