Extract Q's

Hey guys,
I was wonderin about making an extract. How is it done??
I E-mailed Dave's Gourmet about 3 years ago to ask them, I got a response but at the time I didnt uderstand it. Is it easy to do?
BTW if this question was already a post could someone tell me where it is, I'm still trying to figure out how to use a forum lol. Thanks guys.

You all are referring to the dangers of igniting ethanol vapors correct? If so, don't make extract on a gas stove or near an open flame. Electric stoves should be okay though

I'm thinking double boiler would be the best bet regardless of heat source. Less direct heat would mean less chance of creating extract aerosol or burning the stuff you're after in the first place.

Yall got me thinkin now... Even though I'm not a huge fan of extract sauces, maybe homemade extract could be cool.

The creation of it is a nasty business. I have heard of and seen some VERY nasty things happen. I have even had some pretty foul things happen to me, even though I was wearing plenty of protection and had the proper processing equipment. It's kind of like playing around with black powder and sparks.

Everclear that stuff is illegal in Wa. I know some people that make a drink called apple pie with it,very good BTW, could I use Bacardi 151 its 75.5% and some cheap stuff to bring it to 90 or 95%.

If the cheap stuff will raise the proof of the bacardi, why not just use the cheap stuff by itself?

And everclear is illegal there? The only reason they don't sell 100% alcohol in Texas is that shit is hard to make lol

Hmmm, unless you have access to a proof higher that 151, you won't be able to bring up the alcohol percentage past 75.5%. And using non-potable types of alcohol like one can buy at the pharmacy will make you sick. The denaturing additives of denatured alcohol are veeerrryyy nasty. Definitely not food grade material.

I'd say your best bet would be to source some everclear. Sometimes it's branded as "Diesel". If not available in your state, you may need to go across state lines and smuggle some home.

Once split a 5th of it in an evening with a trucker lady friend who brought it for a present from Montana.....wheeeeeeee!

Oh, and unless yer a chem major, don't try making extract at home, seriously. Listen to DefCon..he knows.

I want to try at least...I know a dancer in idaho that would pick me up some everclear. But if Defcon said dont do it I dont think I should... Then I got this crazy idea at work to put creation in a pressure cooker, most likley not a good idea!
