Ferrero's Super Hot Aquaponics Glog

Well I thought its about time I wrote a Glog so here it goes.

I've always loved chilli and have bought plants before mainly habs and birdseyes, I've tried starting some seeds last year but unfortunitly it was late winter and I had no luck, so after last years flop and this year I decided to give it a proper go and I know its just come into winter down here but I thought hey why not :D it'll be a good early start to the growing season.

So my mission was to throw something together with the stuff I already have sitting around the house or free from somewhere else... I knew I had an incubator but its to small for all the plants I wanted to start and the heating element is low wattage but hey I figured I could fit the lid with the working components onto something but what??

After Rattling my brain for a bit I visted a friend of mine and during the conversation I mentioned I wish that I hadn't thrown out my old fishtank because I could use it right about now, my mate then walked me around the corner of his shed and he said you can have this fishtank if you like. So now with a fishtank in hand I head home and scrounge around and find an old aquarium heater "brilliant"...

So I set the whole thing up and below is what it looks like in the end with a few other things I found

Growlist
Trinidad Scorps
Trinidad Choc Scorps
Trinidad BS
Trinidad Moruga
Trinidad Douglah
Cili gorongong
Naga Morich
Mixed unknown Superhots
Jimmy Nardello

Hmmm, Aqua chilli`s now there's a thought.

Them Jiffy`s are swimming for there lives "help me help me im drowning" :P

Its winter, any plant in winter requires a lot less less water, the plants simply are not taking in as much as in summer.

But hey what do i know its my first time growing "east coast" in winter myself, all i know is im being very sparse with the old H2o right now.

Mezo.

Cheers guys,

Yea just wet them down before the photo Mezo its on average 32 degrees in the fishtank during the day so its more like summer temps :) Also your spot on with the aqua chilli's a fair few of these plants will be going into the aquaponics system when its warm enough.

Well its a miserable wet old day today so work got canned but hey on the upside I managed to get out the back without getting to wet and everythings looking good my morugas and douglahs are all growing nicely and about half the jiffys have germinated

Yep its pissing down here now as well, you guys have had a lot more rain than me though & judging by the radar im about to be hit with a big dollop.

Mezo.

Just a quick update everythings doing well besides it being bloody cold lowest so far has been -1c

Most have sprouted a few haven't but I'll reuse the ones that didn't in a week or too :)

And for shits and giggles fun times at work, this is what happens when you spend half an hour cold chiseling concrete out to try and squeeze in a pipe.. :D

Well I potted some of these up planted some ancho seeds in the jiffys that seeds haven't survived. Funny thing is with all these plants they are all not labeled so its going to be interesting to see them all mature and figure out whats what.

Thanks JR I think the only chilli plants I can maybe identify are your jimmy nardellos their sprout is different from the superhots :D

I've got to admit things haven't worked to plan my little setup as is warmed up has sent some of the seedlings through some shock, they have lost a lot of there lower leaves and some that i started a month or so later are pretty small. we have had days around 23-29 degrees during the day but the average for the night time temps have been between 0 and 7 degrees.

I'm not overly concerned at the moment but I'm figuring I may unload a few of the seedlings into the aquaponics system in the next few days after the frost predicted, I have noticed in the last week the 2 super hots I had barely surviving int the aquaponics system died which is a sad note seeing they mad it nearly through the whole winter and funilly enough I have a thai birdseye which made it and has just started taking off so I guess the c.chinese need slighlty warmer temps

I hope they do ok we only have 5 days of winter left :D

This will be fun to watch.

yea it'll be interesting to see how it goes over the whole summer ;)

So far a few of the plants have died probably 5 out of the 30 oddish plants I put it god knows why but the others are going well some slower than others and some are just bolting ahead.

A pic of my fastest bolter

A few others have a bud or two already aswell :)

Good to see some of your little fellas taking off now!

You'll just have to plant more now to make up for the ones that didn't make it. ;)

Nice pup too!

Cheers gas, I think I'm at the ends for planting out chillies this year, so I bought some fennel, thyme, cucumbers and rainbow silverbeet, I'm figuring the mix of super hots will make for some interestings offspring for next year :)
