Found this little jumping spider on my watering jug...picture inside...

Keep him amongst my plants or let him go outside? Its still only an average of 5C-10C outside so I'm thinking thats a bit too cold for him to survive. Will he serve any benefit like taking care of gnats or mites or any other unwanted pests amongst house plants?

I'd keep him amongst the plants.

He is now in my Bhut Jolokia plant :) Such an interesting little critter. I was watching him. They seem so smart given their little size. Very curious too and aware of their surroundings. When I was taking the picture, he seemed very interested in the camera...not sure if he was seeing a reflection in the lens but not scared at all.

Jumping spiders do a very nice job of eating gnats.

Ok thats awesome. I should just toss spiders into my plants then whenever I find them around the house :) I dont know why I never thought of that before. I dont like to kill spiders or insects that are predatory because I see them as a benefit. I also found a lady bug in my house and its also amongst the plants. Hopefully Mr. Spider wont eat Mr. Lady bug.

Jumpers have the best eyesight in the word of arachnids and have even demonstrated cognitive behavior. Keep her around and she'll keep her section of the plant bug free. And yes it is a female.

I just have to think of a name for her now :)

Betty!
I have a ladybug that just showed up, inside the house not outside - she hangs around my peppers that are lined up on an 8foot basement window that faces south - no more aphids but lots of little flies.

Awesome jumper! these are as cute as puppies and better'n watchdogs for your houseplants! I always try to keep the spiders in the corners. If I have to clean where they are I either move them or allow them to flee from my broom. I follow the old English folk saying "If you wish to live and thrive, let the spider run alive".

She's good luck!

the little spiders are great friends and I agree they are very curious...

I won't kill a spider in my home.....they do way too much good. :)

......well there WAS that black widow I smashed on my chest....but I believe I deserve a pass for that one. ;)

:pass granted to Paul:

I am more worried about picking something up in the growrage that has a brown recluse on it to tell you the truth...

I'm very happy because I saw her again. She was on some vertical blinds which are not far from my plants. I gently held the section of blind that she was on and took a pic :)

I predict your plants are well protected! -you are taken some beautful pics there, by the way!

Thanks Celeste :) I feel bad but I had to start putting some of those sticky tape things in my flower pots because I was starting to get too many Gnats or fruit flies. I'm hoping the little spider wont be going inside the pots. Most of the time I've spotted her in the corners and not actually on the pots or plants.

Be safe little spider!
