Gassy's 2010/2011 Pepper Growing Thread Thingy

Dang gas you've got some wild stuff growing. Jalapeno and Trinidad Scorpion? Watch out nacho's.

FYI baby rattler don't have a more potent venom than adults. It just seems that way because they have less control of how much they inject so when they do get ya they give you all they have.

Yes, I'm REALLY hoping it takes!

Of course, if it does, I honestly have no idea what to expect... but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for something that produces fruit with a nice sweet annuum taste but with a good hot chinense burn. :mouthonfire:

Ok wow great log man took me about 25 minutes to get up to date looks like you had yerself an awesome comback season with lots of good pods and now maybe even some hybrids.
Well done! :onfire: :woohoo: :onfire:

Thanks, man!

I look back now and can't believe how much I've actually learned this past season! And now that I've got a bit of experience under my belt, it's time to do it all again.... :D

I bet those "not dorsets" will turn out to be orange. My guess anyways!
You should've put some money on that.... ;)

I envy the growing weather you blokes have 'Down Under'. I live in Wash., D.C. where the weather is documented as being some of the most erratic in the U.S. :(

Don't feel alone on that one. To tell the truth, over the last season, the weather HERE has been erratic too!

sheeet dude those pods look great
Thanks bro!

I have yet to try one of the big old orange/red mystery things, but am going to do so tonight. :D (reports later....)

If they turn out tasting alright and have a good heat, I will probably grow them again - even though they are not what they are supposed to be, I have to admit, the plant was crazy productive!

And my Choc Bhuts, they are murdering me! I am honestly finding it hard to find a distinction in heat between them and my Scorpions....

Finally a decent harvest!

A pile of my NOT Dorset Nagas and my NOT Wasps, plus two Choc Bhuts and a normal Bhut.
so do you know what those crumpled yellow ones are that aren't wasps? I dunno what wasps are supposed to look like.
I have some seeds for the coming season from peppermania.com which look crazy, a bit like that. They are called Aribibi Gusano or cattepillar pepper http://www.peppermania.com/db_C-Aribibi_Gusano4.jpg

Just found your thread. You have def. been through a lot last season as well as learnt alot. I'm starting to think that broad mites played a part in some of my problems this season also. Better get some Rogor!
I love the look of those Wasps. What do they taste like and how is the heat?
Good luck with next season, I think you will do very well

Somehow i missed this thread too. Your putting out some nice results Gassy...and the peppers you got in that bowl are making me hungry.
Good Job!

Well, about a week ago at the spare of the moment, I decided to try my hand at some cross pollination. Nothing was planned and I only had a limited number of plants that I could utilize (i.e. that either had blossoms just about to open or were producing pollen).

And possibly a Jalapeno x Trinidad Scorpion:

I won't be holding my breath though as not only is winter rapidly approaching now but both the mother plants are in poor health (my luck, of course, that the only two that take are on unhealthy plants). :(
I just sprouted some jalapenos last week. First time growing them for me. Hope I can keep them alive

Yeah, I've actually been wondering if there might be some Aribibi Gusano genetics in there.

They are quite hot, but I wouldn't say super hot or anything. The taste is hard to describe - but it is a very strong chinense taste! I actually fried some green ones up with brekky one morning for something different, and I ended up tasting them all day (you know like when you eat a kabana and you can taste it for ages afterward?).

Something else about them is that they have a very strong chinense smell too. So much to the point that I can even smell them on my hands for hours after chopping them up!

Thanks mate!

Jalapenos are actually one of my favourites now. The ones I grew last season turned out to be absolute rippers!

Hope yours grow great for ya!

Was that one over- wintered or first growth?
It is a first season plant. I ended up pruning it quite severely though due to the plant becoming quite unhealthy at one stage and I wanted to rid it of the "sick" growth. I dare say that is why the second round of pods are much smoother than that of when it first produced.
