so i was being a nincompoop and forgot to switch the heater on, didn't turn on the heating element til it was night! lol.

Lil' goronongs.

Srin, the temperature that i used to germinate is from 29-32 celcius.

ok i just checked using a digital thermometer, i ended up cooking the seeds. lol. thank god i only used seeds from annuums i just had lying around.

it was 40+ C in there! i dialed down the heating element. and here i thought i set it to 27C!

i messed it up yet again! lol.

good job kiddc!

once i manage to set the darn heater right i'll germinate other seeds this time.

I'm pretty sure my 50% germination rate last season was due to cooking seeds too. Good idea to test it on the cheap seeds first and get it set up right.

well i checked it last night after dialing the heater back, it's down to 32c, not so bad. will dial it down again and see what setting i should leave it on.

two (2 out of 3 seeds) orange 7 pots that were sown a week before had germinated exactly one week after sowing (the 2nd one germinated after 10 days), with no special attention to me!!!

the seeds i sowed in my germination chamber did absolutely squat after being in there for close to 2 weeks now. lol

gonna redo the experiment with a better water basin and a nice wide container for the plastic cups. i've pretty much given up on those annuum seeds i tried out. lol.

What I've found in my limited experience was that when things don'w want to germinate, it is usually the seed. I mean, if you've got fresh, viable seeds and moisten them up a little bit, they're going to germinate whether you like it or not. If you've got bad seeds then you can put them in the most perfect conditions known to man and they'll still not work.

I've given up on fancy methods...I just pu my seed on something that'll keep moist and let them do their thing. And when I get seeds from the right people, I get more or less 90% germination rate in a week or two - both for the annums and the chinenses...

only reason i wanted to redo the whole thing is because of the fact that the container that holds the plastic cups has a hole in it and drowns the plastic cup since the water leeches up from the bottom. not a good thing to keep the soil sopping wet like that.

i'll redo it some other time.

i have just given up on my bhut jolokia seeds....:( now i am hoping my T. scorpion butch seeds survive using jiffy peat pot and keeping it outside in a shaded area.

woooooooohoooooooooooooo!!!
my Trinidad scorpion butch just hooked. this time i did it differently from my other germination attempt. i soaked my seeds overnight then i soaked my peat pellets in weak 12-21-21 laced water. the next day i sowed the seeds in the peat pellets and place them in a plastic container each. i placed the container in a shaded area of my garden. it does get heat from the sun and (sunlight for abt 2 hours a day.) The area is open so no accumulation of heat. it is not placed in the ground but on a wooden table like plank 4 feet above the ground.
hope that the second butch seed also germinate.!

great to hear that yours have started to germinate. i just recieved my butch t's from scott. will sow some soon. =D

I think the most important thing is to first use viable seeds) I think that is it. I heat of Thailand most seeds don't last long so I've learned not to keep them long as won't be viable, so get nothing. I have had so many seeds become not viable with in months. The frig help keep them over 6 months. I have thought the heat need to have to down at night for the Chinese types. In Pattaya had the worst luck with all, but the Habs were the worst as in Bkk they did better. Now hopping for better luck as where we are get as cool as 28 C at night but its summer so thats great as in the other would not get under 32 C.
