Giant Pumpkin+veg. GLOG!!!

I think that went for a few weeks! smelt horrible, I had it close to the back door because I wanted to keep it under cover because the go pro turns off when it gets too much direct sunlight

going ok!  Pretty much finished now!  Measured a couple of days ago at 192kg which is 422.4 lb!
I'm organising to donate it to a soup kitchen!  Should be good! they seem happy about it!

Awesome. Keep it up bro. You'll be in the 1000lbs. range soon. I just started a bunch of giant tomatoes. Weather is good enough for them, a tad late, but it should be a great season.

Well the second annual Arizona giant pumpkin weigh off results are in...

Wow, any idea how they taste?
I haven't tasted one yet. David did a while back and posted about it. I'll have to find that post for ya. He said it's great, he roasted it like squash in the oven.

Good eating!  Lighter on pumpkin flavour than regular pumpkin and softer texture when cooked, but still very edible.  I keep seeing people say they aren't edible...but I think thats because of the chemicals the serious growers use to kill powdery mildew.  That eagle 20 they use to kill powdery mildew is systemic and that make them inedible.

That's probably correct - figure the serious competition growers are pumping the things with all kinds of chemicals to get them to grow that big -- If you grow them without adding too many ferts they are edible but usually have a pretty bland taste ( just like most squashes as they get larger) - so you need to cook them with something that adds the flavor.

I was expecting them to be bland, their stretched so far that taste is compromised beside all the chemicals. End up tasting like store bought stuff :(

Just started germinating some Giant Pumkin seeds. Weigh in is October. Y'all got any tips on what I could feed them?

Started getting a spot ready about 2 weeks ago. Black Kow compost, Osmocote 14-14-14 mixed in there.

Awesome! Welcome to the world of competition growing!

It's hard recommending fertilizers, but maybe David can help better than I. I do suggest making an account on bigpumpkins.com and research everything. A lot of experienced growers on there from around the world.

I dont know much about fertilizers really,  all my stuff is hydroponic and I just stick with dutch master advance.
I'd like too give that a try. This year will be just in the dirt.
