I hope so too! I hurt my back on Monday so I'm in a battle against time for my back to get a bit better so I can reposition the board under the pumpkin before it gets too heavy. I think it might be a two person job now already
Things went bad for a little while there, weather went bad and the vine stopped growing, the pumpkin started weeping, usually when my pumpkins start weeping they abort soon after, but this one seems to be pulling through, growth is fairly slow but the weight is creeping up. At about 70kg now 154lb. I've gone back to the grow nutrients and I've added silica and some cal/mag, that seems to have made it slightly more happy. I've also added some mycorrhizae which is a bacteria that grows with the roots and seems to benefit the plant alot. Probably wont see any difference there for atleast a week.
The more I look at this pumpkin the more it seems a replica of my last big one! I'll take some photos.
Oh wow! Love the color! It looks exactly like your last one, how cool.
Looks like next year will just be giant tomatoes and peppers for me. Going to do the peppers right next year. Looks like I will be growing chocolate brain strain, yellow fatalii from pepperlover and Jay's peach ghost scorpion and my OW peach ghost, but the list keeps growing. Kinda wanna keep it small so it's manageable. Going to only have 2 tomato plants I think, might end up being more though.
I look forward to more pictures! You are already on track for a big one, keep 'er goin.
Sounds good! I dont like to grow too many chilies either, gets a bit crazy and I'm not a fan of picking thousands and thousands of pods!
I do also have a giant tomato going, its not a very big plant yet....BUT I do have a massive fused bloom coming up on it. I'll have to try and get a good photo of it.
That is a good one! The seed I am going with is 4lbs Domke. So far everyone who's growing it has had multiple mega blooms, all have been massive! So I think it might be my best bet. Following are not my pictures but this is typical of the Domke.
You should get a huge one out of that. What was your personal best?
I think I had pretty good success in soil. Although it's kind of hard to regulate the water, it's either too dry or waaaay too wet. But who knows the biggest tomatoes this year were grown in soil. I'm sure you'll do fine.
How are your pepper plants? I wanna see some pod porn!
Whoa! That thing is loaded! I just started my Jays Peach, chocolate brainstrain, yellow fatalii and manzano. Already have fatalii and brainstrain. Having trouble germinating the jays peach.
What's the weather been like over there? Maybe that has something to do with the heat of the pod. But personally I would take freaking hot over kill yourself hot.
Its been warm but not super hot, I think the real heat is about to come in now. Really windy too...so much wind. I'm surprised I've got any leaves left on my pumpkin at all.
Sorry this month has been busy. I just got on a wild seed train so picked up a few nice rare peppers. Going to be starting those here soon. Here's to a productive 2016!
Cool video! Bummer that the seeds were no good, loved the color on that one. Just got a big surprise seed package today from the Arizona giant pumpkin growers club. Lots of great tomato seeds, started all my peppers for this season so I may throw some tomato seeds under the light as well. Going to need some soil hahaha. Looking like it's going to be a great season so good luck on your next pumpkin!
The tomato didnt go well, grubs got to it again even though I had netting over the whole plant from the beginning.
The pumpkin vine is doing well, it should make it to the trough for the secondary roots in a couple of days. So hopefully in a week or two I have another pumpkin pollinated.
Things seem to go fast up there in OZ. I just started my tomato seeds about a week ago. Really love those things. Well that is a bummer man, was hoping to see a MONSTER. Keep trying though, maybe you can beat those grubs. I never really had to deal with them last year, only grasshoppers. Dang things ripped the plant apart, found that if you sprinkle bakers flour on the plants they don't touch it. Wonder if the same would apply to grubs? I'll post a picture of my grow box here in a couple days, just for progress' sake.
