I'm thinking I might do a glog this time around ...

I'm really good about photodoc'ing, but a little lax w/ posting ...

New arrivals from CCN soaking up the negative ions and perking up after their trip down the Eastern Coast ...

Deng. It's all good. So what's the damage after the storm ?!

Have some plants staked up from being beaten a bit by rain, and the bacterial leaf spot is temporarily suspended in spreading while it's been hot and dry for the past week or so ... not before it did some pretty horriffic damage first, though ... I've actually been harvesting a lot, because the stress and heat kind of pin the plants to their death bed a bit and in a lot of cases my plants are dropping their pods ... my plants get full, unfiltered Florida sun for the full day length ...

Anyways, it's just "that" time ... Super hot, super humid ... perfect for pestilence ... shitty for setting pods ...

It gets good in september, when you still have a plant and it's angry and the weather turns dry and moderate ... then, the Florida sun is a good thing ...

Just  have to wait ... and suffer through near 100F @ 100% humidity for a bit first =)

Cheers, dude ...

I hear ya on that. Same deal with me. All day long unfiltered FL sun.  I have some plants that have been flowering for weeks, and dropping them all.

My cayennes and aji lemons still seem to be busting regardless though.

and a snap of my favorite planter since the BLS thinned it out a bit ...

been raining for days, and it looks to continue ... we'll see how we fare through it ...

can't really do much w/ copper while it's raining all day and night each day ... just have to wait it out ...

Damn dude. Looks like you're stilling getting a nice amount of pods.

Yeah, this rain is not making for happy plants. Been raining for a week straight pretty much.

When you are drying your peppers, did those all come off the plant at the same time, or do you dry them in batches?

I'm still learning how I should go about saving my peppers when I am only picking about one or two per day

I pick every 2nd or 3rd day or so, collecting some in brown bags to ripen the rest of the way, and do batches in the dehydrator ...

Last year we froze fresh pods, but they are mush when you thaw them and they take up precious freezer space ...

The dehydrated pods crush nicely in the Le Creuset mortar/prestle as it's a fine grade of abrasive, and I figure they'll keep for some time w/ those desiccant packs ... this has been much better this year, compared to last ... in truth, we probably already have enough dried to use all year ...

Otherwise I just looked, and the BLS is ravaging the bells just like last year ... I'll probably yank them and call it a day w/ bells, and just grow out some replacement plants for fall plant out - comprised of habanero-types and jala's (because they seem to out-thrive the BLS here) ...

We'll see ...

Cheers!

PS - Been cooking soap obsessively so far this summer ... it's good for the diet ...

OK ...

I'm going to start calling it a comeback ...

I'm ready to do my next grow.

I'm positive I know what I did wrong last time, so I'm going to give it a go again in the next months and do something very differently ...

First of all, I'm going to grow the plants in the shade, under my carport, using the reflected light from the bright white coat my neighbor has on the wall of her house directly N. of my new grow space.

If I think supplemental lighting will improve things, I'll add lighting - it's not that expensive anymore ...

I'm going to solve the 1st major problem I had growing before, not automating my watering system ...

I *need* to do this, as my work schedule is demanding in ways that plants in the sun didn't survive here in Florida ...

Also, it's a fun programming project, which is cool, I guess ...

I've been following this guy since the first month he posted this thing. ( https://www.youtube.com/user/larrylhall )

he's a nut, my kind of guy really ...

I'll probably by floats and bags from him, to support him. ( http://www.growbaggardensystems.com/ )

I'll definitely be doing AACT, from the start, and I'm going to be growing from seed this time for control (and because two of the things I want to grow most, are only in seed - JHP's Mystery Wine and my Shop Foreman's mysteriously awesome little orange pepper) ...

While I get setup, and change around my carport to have area for gardening and BBQ "pit", though, I need to order some SFRB of peppers and do some projects w/ fermenting and canning and otherwise processing pods ...

I was overflowing w/ pods, and we spent time just picking and washing them, but ultimately threw away half, and dried a quarter, and ate at most, 15% ... it was much ado about nothing' ... really.

So, while I'm starting them from seed, I'll be trying some new stuff, so that I'm already prepared for what needs to be done when the pods start flowing ...

I'd still like to try some stuff I've had in mind for a while, which might be pretty cool ... we'll see.

Last time I found it more frustrating than it was worth, and ultimately let the garden die off (to the BLS and predators and virii etc) ...

Now, though, the Topsy Turvy's have moved to a new home w/ my friend, who is growing veggies out of them happily, and I'm looking at a blank canvas and the time of year where it's cool out and I have a little bit of free time for a change ...

#comeback

I'm going to go for healthy, dark green, shade-grown plants ...

Lower yield would be a blessing, not a curse, really.

I'm going to just keep them perennials and buy them size appropriate container upgrades etc.

It's really just a plan to force me to learn to grow soil before I grow plants.

The plants that I let go and NEVER watered or fed were still popping off the occasional pod as they left in the back of a friend's trailer ...

I'm positive that's because of the worms and myco and stuff I'd mixed in to the ProMix ...

It had been well over a year of total neglect ...

We'll see ...

Mystery Wine!!!!

?

Let's say I grow only two kinds of peppers, and they are quite distinct ...

Where am I at in terms of isolation?

I'm thinking about growing some of JHP's Mystery Wine, but I still want to try to tinker w/ stabilizing my tiny orange peppers from that wild bush in MIA ...

I need to look back but you should have F5 seeds.

Air pruning folks - I have a few ?'s ...

If you use root pouches in the shade, but it's still hot, will the roots prune or circle?

We're talking about 85-95F w/ typically high Florida humidity ...

This project/experiment is about never-wintering, as I plan to grow these plants perennially, something that's always been of interest to me personally ...

I'm thinking the root pouches won't disintegrate all that quickly in the shade, and sitting on concrete ...

One other question, really random, and kind of nasty (maybe?) ...

I haven't spun my EnviroCycle in two years, and I have no idea what's in it, let alone in the bottom ... LOL.

Aside from having a can of spider killer in-hand, any predictions of what's likely going on in there? Mental preparedness FTMFnW!

We'll see how this goes before ordering an actual aerogarden ...

Have some pouches w/ unused ProMix (BX) from my old grow, still around ...

The one's on the ground got some aloe at some point along the way, lol ...

Stuff is all nasty, but it'll do ...

Just need to decide what to put in the cups now (nutrient-wise) ...
