greenhouse Greenhouse Work - New Tables and Tent 03-08-09

AlabamaJack

eXtreme
I had said on another thread I was going to put new tables in my greenhouse...yup...that's what I did...

two 4' X 8' sheets of 3/4" plywood

new tables in place....

somebody asked me about the material I have covering the greenhouse...by accident, the top left portion of the photograph shows the 1/4" weave of string through the plastic fabric...

visquene (tent) and borders in place....

hanging chain for light fixture and more plywood to clip tent to...the size of this hanging fixture is 2' wide and 12 feet long & centered on the table...I decided to buy two 500 watt halogen shop lights to use for heat...they were 40 dollars cheaper than light fixture I built...

final product with plants in place...I left myself a 2 foot wide area on this end for a watering/work area...

Good lord, get down from there before you hurt yourself! As always, your engineering is mind boggling.

Are you going to leave the greenhouse up all summer?

I promise you it will hold my 200 lbs...on steel saw horses with 2 X 4's beneath the plywood for longitudinal strength...thanks Pam..

I am going to leave the structure up...will replace the transluscent cover with shade cloth before July and install a misting system with fans for cooling...

thanks Stillz...the wife said yesterday...well you can grow year round now...

That's a fine looking structure and set-up, AJ! Would you say the plants you put out last week are hardened off enough yet?

Mike

Carol...you have to remember, I went to Auburn so that fluid dynamics is a must learn for the engineer...I had some experience in the area before starting school tho...

thanks Mike...

probably hardened...although I have not tested them in full sunlight yet...I will take a couple and put them in the sun as sacrificial offerings to see if they are hardened off good enough...I sure don't want to get sunscald with the plants I put out first last year...it set me back 4 months on about 50 superhots...

hey aj,

what kind of bulbs are hanging in that really impressive set up ?

They WERE 90 watt halogen flood lights...do not, I repeat, do not use them for heating...I had severe burn to about 8 plants that were directly under the bulbs....they were changed out today to 2700K 42 Watt (150 Eq) CFLs....

if you ever wondered what a 10 X 20 Greenhouse looked like from my back porch...here is a pic...actually shows my shoddy work with the duck tape...oh well...it works...

I just finished preparing for the cold week ahead...it was 81 this afternoon and the temperature will drop for about the next 36 hours...low today is 50 at midnight, then 50 at 1 past midnight is the high for tomorrow...supposed to get to 36 tomorrow night and then may freeze Thurs night/Fri morning...all I can say is that I think I am prepared....plants watered in good and the greenhouse is 76 degrees...haven't put the tent up yet....oh yeah....here is a pic of the tent with the plants in it and the original 90 watt floodlights...

gonna cruise the forums for a while then have a restful evening...am watering plants in growrage right now....

ramble on...

'ssss OK...they have flown over when I was home 2 out of the past three years...two years ago they hovered over my house about 150 feet up...I looked up and made contact with the guy on the right sidehe was looking thru binoculars...I was checking tomatos and had three green ones I was looking at...I took the tomatos in my hand, looked up at the chopper, pointed at the tomatos in my other hand and mouthed the words...T...O...M...A...T...O...the pilot veered back towards fort worth and hauled butt....

only rule is if they wanna search, they have to taste each of the peppers that are growing...no fresh pods but plenty of dehydrated...that ought to make them smile...

Now that is funny. Would be even funnier if they would search and accept your conditions. I can see the headlines now.

BTW, check your in box, got a funny one for ya. ;)
