contest Growdown Throwdown 2019 Sri Lanka - Chilli Red!

For a SASE, do we basically just mail you an envelope inside of another envelope that is already stamped?  Saying it like that makes it sound pretty obvious what the right answer is, but just want to make sure.
That is exactly how it is done.

Send an envelope inside an envelope that is already addressed and stamped.

PayPal is really predatory with its terms and arbitrary with enforcing them, which is why I suggested Stripe instead.

Either way, particularly given the flighty nature of USPS international first class mail, I would not want to risk having someone else pay for something that might not reach me (though that is a very generous offer!).

Exactly this.

Here's the deal to clear up a few questions:

Last year, I sent out regular mail envelopes, no matter the address, including more than ONE stamp for destinations I believed to warrant them...

Most got there, some didn't, despite resends. It happens.

This year its simple; I'f I receive your SASE successfully, then you will be able to compete. If not, you don't.

It's that simple.

This may put out some very few international members, maybe not. I'm not going to accept a bunch of paypal payments and then possibly not be able to deliver on account of the postal services. So, my theory this year is this: If it can get to me, it can get to you. Execute your SASE well, and you're getting seeds.

Great idea! Just wondering what stamps I should put on the return envelope, given that I live in Denmark - do these have to be US stamps?

Same here... can't really get US stamps in Japan.Mind giving us furners a Stripe payment option?

I'm just the other side of the border and we don't have US stamps neither

Seems like paypal would be a lot easier....

Orekoc said:
That would be a good option for the international people.

Orekoc said:
Guru, I'll include some $$ which should pay for a couple of the international people.

This is a very kind offer of course, thanks! I for one would also really not mind to PayPal Guru some money for his efforts, they are greatly appreciated!

So thinking about this. I truly prefer only SASE this year, but will entertain the PayPal bit again for the few international people. It will be friends and family only donations of course with no promises. I didnt want to have to sort out a bunch of postage for folks but if it means more people get to compete then I guess...Ill give it the ole college try. PM me for that detail specifically.

And, don't forget to include some sort of protection in your SASE for your precious seeds. Something like a scrap of mini bubble wrap or a small piece of paper towel that can folded to cushion the seeds. A package of seeds arrived safely from France that were in small ziplocs inserted, book style, in a folded paper towel which was then inserted inside a folded piece of card stock. Try to keep it simple and not create extra work for Guru.

Looks like I am late for the vote. Was hoping to see the lowly and and misconceived rocoto get more love.

I feel like the Rocoto actually gets a fair amount of love on this site and probably would have gotten more votes if this hadn't been a 2-3 horse race from the start.  Anyhow, I can guarantee you I'll be growing plenty this season as usual and if there's ever a Rocoto growdown throwdown I'll be all over it!

I'm doing my own private Rocoto Growdown, doa'n nee no steenkin' contest, mon. Rocoto try to beat you all by itself!!

I agree, a Rocoto competition would be a blast, and except for a very few ringers in the membership, a very low scoring competition. I look forward to meeting you on that field of battle.... :hell:

I love Rocoto. Have grown it every year since bringing it back from my Peru trip. In fact...the sauce I just sent Coldsmoke should blow his mind. There's something about Rocoto and blending those seeds into the sauce that I just love.

I get more mini rocotos and manzanos to do well outdoors than I do these big giant Rocotos from Peru.

As I anticipated (and wanted to avoid) there are some people that just can't be pleased. If you happen to be one of the people that can't fathom how to get a SASE to me, or a small paypal payment to cover your packaging/postage for this growdown...maybe this event isn't for you. It's funny to me really, how much effort (or lack thereof) people will put into getting basically free seeds...haha

Think about this when joining a growdown hosted by someone from a country that isn't the one you live in. If we would have chosen a different variety and were obligated to order from a business in the US, how would you have EVER gotten them then?! ha

I've always been about getting seeds into people's hands but sometimes people can make things unnecessarily complicated. This will certainly be addressed in the rules for these growdowns moving forward. New rule: If you're not willing to put effort into getting your seeds to compete, then you likely won't get them or compete. Simple.

If you won't paypal, facebook, cashapp, or SASE then why bother?

This is seriously disingenuous.

Maybe because businesses in the US accept payments without requiring their customers to have a PayPal account. Totally unrelated to this.

Again, really disingenuous and unnecessary. I don't see how "please request money from me via PayPal" was "unnecessarily complicated." But clearly it pissed you off something fierce, for some reason. I'd apologize if you hadn't felt the need to go off the rails over it.

I don't know what you told anyone else, but you didn't even mention options besides PayPal to me before you started getting hot under the collar. "Why bother?" Because it seemed really fun and I genuinely wanted to be part of this?

Anyway, somehow you've decided I'm an entitled twat, so never mind. I hope everyone else enjoys this growdown and manages to avoid... whatever this was.
