contest Growdown Throwdown 2019 Sri Lanka - Chilli Red!

Been getting them every year for about the past 4 years. They get on the pepper plants but really love my zucchini and squash plants. Easy to kill and control though. Will probably never get totally rid of them but in small numbers they're pretty harmless I've noticed
That is not true get the Clorox and spray any plants that have them [emoji43]

Thanks! Good to know as that's what I've been using on some OWs as well, but they keep coming back (albeit in much smaller numbers). Do you know if they have natural predators outdoors?

Natural predators include predatory mites. You can get
them online like ladybird beetles, lacewing, and praying
mantis eggs. Some garden supply stores sell stuff like
that seasonally, but not easy to find.

I've never had mites in any concerning numbers in my
garden, but I've read the predatory mites are the trick.
Good luck eradicating them to your satisfaction, Erv.

I wonder how many plants have been murdered as a result of being sent to this thread by Google...

Not enough!

Just neem oil with a touch of dish soap added. Seems to keep them in check.

Ever tried pyrethrin?

Updating your pest resistance levels now.

cayenne heat with Chinese flavor. It wasnt too seedy and would be a nice hot sauce pepper, itd be good on a pepperjack or sharp cheddar omelette.

If I'm to really think about it, I guess we are at F3 at this point. I nabbed these in 2016 in Sri Lanka. Grew them 2017, variations were minimal but some pods were much smaller both still very annum. 2018 One distinct annum longer, thicker classic looking meaty pods and then ones that were a bit shorter with more of a crinkle near the calyx end, with the chinense flavor.

I expect plenty of variation at this F3 point. Not to mention the inevitable odd ball (obvious new OP cross from 2018, now at its F1)

I'm seeing a lot of perfect looking, longer, closer to the original Sri Lanka pods from members too. Those will taste annum all the way with a sweet, meaty flesh and heat.

I'm actually growing a handful of the growdowns as well as the originals (from dried pods from the trip). I'll be sure to post comparison photos.

I guess it needs to be addressed, but for the purpose of the weigh ins here and the variation we will see, so long as it not an obvious odd ball, it can be chosen as your plant and weighed. Agreed?

Sounds good, Rich.

Any questions should be addressed to you on
this thread if there are identification issues.

It will be fun to see the comparisons, like these.

A closer look. Any thoughts?

I guess this is the classic pod shape, from the contest SLR:

That off pheno has that tip dimply like an Aribibi Gusano...which was in the garden last year...who knows! Ha This growdown won't just be good because its a grow down, but because we get to see all the neat stuff that comes from OP sometimes.

Yeah, those are really Home Depot Orange buckets that were Photoshopped to Lowe's Blue.

I've got 6 plants, need to decide soon which one is for the growdown.  Nice that all 6 seeds planted, sprouted.  To my untrained eye, they all look the same.
