For a grand total of seventy-seven grams. (It kind of looks bigger if you write it out.)
Most everything has either stopped fruiting or slowed way down. Temperatures here should be peaking this month, so hopefully we see more friendly weather before too long.

The bugs finally left me an example of the red Aribibi Gusano-like Pheno of the Chili Red to taste test.
Here's a look at the inside:
It was very hot. I could only manage to try two small pieces. Then I was headed for the fridge to get some milk.
Unfortunately, for my part, I wasn't a big fan of the flavor. I could definitely detect a taste similar to many other Chinense peppers. But after that, the flavor just left me flat. I'd much prefer the flavor of the Scotch Bonnet, or several other Chinenses.
I'll save some seeds. But since it doesn't have the desired white color, and since I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor, I doubt I'll grow it again next year. The regular GDTD Sri Lankan Chili Red will definitely end up in next year's grow. But, I'm a little cool on this pheno.

I have some seeds I can send you from the correct pheno or if you'd like seeds from the off pheno in the picture, I have some drying in the garage but they're not ready yet. My dehydrator is a little on the warm side so not sure how viable those seeds will be. What part of southern CA are you in?Mr.joe said:

Here's a good article on saving seeds for best viability. http://howtosaveseeds.com/store.php Not just heat, but how quickly seeds are dried will limit their shelf-life. That said, you shouldn't have a any problem drying at 95F and germinating good %'s next season. That's about what I'd target to dry pods and save bulk seed at the same time.
If you don't have a temp dial, slicing a few pods open and putting them on a paper towel or paper plate on top of the dehydrator works well to keep the seeds in a happier temp range.
Didn't look until awhile ago, by then the pods have been processed..

I'm still an amateur at the dark art of roughing out a cross, but I'm coming around to the viewpoint that it requires quite a few trials each generation, especially when trying to work out an undesirable trait in the flavor.
I only have room for about 40-50 plants, and a world of peppers to explore, as well as working in those varieties that I want to keep growing again next year. As it stands right now, I just don't see myself investing in this particular cross.
I think saiias has the more interesting prospect anyways.
