contest Growdown Throwdown 2019 Sri Lanka - Chilli Red!

There are some very interesting crosses showing up.
Mr. Sausage hasn't started ripening up the larger pods, yet,
and the grow down is still drying pods on the vine

When the cloudy rainy days go away, I will get a pic or two up.

I ate about a half inch section out of the middle of one of those yellow ones, and it was really hot. My tolerance may be down, but it was hot for sure. Idk about the flavor, cause the heat kicked in instantly.

I ate a bite out of one of the crossed red ones that I had smoked a while back. I ate the placenta end, it also destroyed me. Here's what I picked off of that plant yesterday

Heyyy pepper people! Its been a while. My plants are on their last legs unfortunately, but I got this off of two of them. 2 peppers per plant (so my final total is 2 lol). I dont think Im going to get any more of them rip. Heres the photo of my glorious harvest (I dont even have anything to weigh them, very sad). I think the ones are crinkly because I left them on the plant for like 2 extra weeks.

My growdown plant has been looking pretty decent for quite a while (5 gallon grow bag on the porch... uh... sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric? That'd be nice).

It does have a pretty decent crop of pods on it. :) They're just really, really taking their time. Also, the rainy season finally got here, so I probably won't get any pictures that aren't sopping wet for a while now.

Sounds like a great hotsauce additive or a flake-n-shake for pizza...

I used 90g of the red crossed pods, and 45g of the correct pheno to make this raspberry sauce yesterday. Do I win something for first batch of sauce from the growdown? Lol.

Turned out really good, except fpr the raspberry seeds would not strain or blend, they are kind of annoying as I like a smooth sauce.

Edit: just remembered Edmick already made some sauce. So there goes that award. Lol

I would, but this was a super small batch. I might try to make some more with store bought berries, or search around for a you-pick maybe.

While I'm here I might as well drop this weigh in. I picked most of the pods, cause I'm about to see what happens when you pot up in July. And I gotta get some kind of cage around this thing.

Picked my first few pods today.  These are starting to ripen.  I really couldn't wait because I am going on vacation tomorrow for a week and who knows what shape they would have been in once I get back.  Picture totally sucks but you can see the whopping huge weight of 12g.  Gotta start somewhere.  I ate the most ripe red pod.  It has some heat.  Good tasting annuum.  Not extreme heat, but a great overall pepper.  I should have a bunch next week.  Got tons of pods but all are green.

Glad you like em! Mine are all green still too! Letting it load up and ripen before I pick, unless they start trying to dry on me.

Sorry for my absence guys. Had surgery a few days ago and been fielding fb drama with dishonest people. I hope I can start picking soon. Planted really late this year.

I have two with pretty similar pheno...and I would put them at 4-500,000 on the Scoville. Hot as shit

saiias said:
Looks like this pheno is a cross between srilanka chilli and aribibi gusano.

Aribibi gusano is supposed to be habenero heat level.

Well, then I'm getting soft because it melted my face half off

Lol. I was just quoting the parent genes.
I see that aribibi gusano has a Scoville rating of 470000 on some websites. So you are bang on.

Here was the OP plot map again for letting our imagination run wild as to what the f1's could be...

That caterpillar was a ways away from the Sri Lanka huh? I'm still betting on a bee flWhing that pollen over.

Maybe there was more than one crossed pod, cause shouldnt the f1s be the the same if they were crossed from stable genetics? I definitely could be wrong though lol

Ps. Wats up on the surgery? You doing alright?

There is certainly more than one crossed pod! That entire bowl was likely filled with furture F1's from all over the plot! Some got Aribibi, some got this, some got that...so on and so forth! F1's are supposed resemble perfect mixes of both parents, so a little time looking at the pod you have and then cross referencing with the map I posted could give us decent ideas.

I love this thread. I'm loving the pods and plants you guys are showing! Just remember though the F2's is where things get REALLY interesting! Grow a bunch and select them out next year for sure guys!

Here is a weigh in on Wed and today.  Same weight, different peppers. These are going into dehydrator whole. Total weight .75 oz

Breakfast burrito with Sri Lanka chili,  yum, yum.
