HBJ 2015 - Got a box of pepper love in mail today!!!

Just getting this thrown up here so I can do some edits to it as it is shorter than I want it.

Scaling back my supers to one 30 plant raised bed and one 30 plant hab like bed.

annuums, sweets, and misc peppers will go in the back garden.  Since I had 8 rows of hots out there this year and only planning on 2-3 rows next year, it should make more room for other things.  Also scaling back the number of each type of plant I am growing.  Looking at most 2 per plant type, except for the ones in the back garden.

Still haven't narrowed down a number on the sweets yet.

Looks like everything is doing great.  Did you start your onions from seed or buy starts?  I tried growing them from seed, and they appear to be the poorest germinators I have ever dealt with.

Oh, freakin' OOOOWWWWWW     on the hook in the thumb pic.  Geez.

When I was younger, I used to fly fish a log lot.  Although I probably hooked
more submerged logs than German browns!

One time the wind carried a Royal Coachman streamer right through my
earlobe on the forecast.  Dayum!

Your plants look marvelous, my friend.    Let's get some plant-out on!

Very nice Jeff. As you know hard work pays off. I hope it pays double for you. That soil looks amazing. Can't wait to see them beds full in a couple months. The wild berries pop up yet?

Thanks for sharing. Everything looks great.

Chuck

Won't be getting any wild berries until June.  That's when the raspberries start popping.

Last year I went with seed on some and they germed very good, but they were so tiny when I planted out.  My cipollini didn't get very big.  I found plants for sale online for a pretty good price with free shipping.  Picked up two bunches red marble and two bunches of the gold coin.  Hoping that going this way with increase my chances at some bigger onions this fall.  They are such a sweet onion.

Having to stake some of my peppers as they are really growing.  I knew this would happen, but the Budapest, Biggie, Jalapeno, bombs and my HBJ should have been started with the sweets and not with the Chinense.  You know how it is though lol.

Strange thing happened to one of my jigsaw peppers.  All the rest have been potted up into gallons, but it is still in its 3 inch pot as it is only two inches tall with 6 very small true leaves.

So I pulled out the root riot plug and there was no roots escaping the plug.  Inside the plug was just a small tap root.  Not sure what happened.  I removed the plug the best I could and planted it back in the dirt.  Never encountered this before.  If it lives good, if not, then it wasn't going to produce anyway.

Some melons are getting potted up today along with some of the late coming tomatoes.

I did get the skunk out of the boat on Tuesday as far as fish with teeth goes.

Gardens are looking good Jeff. Love the look of your soil. You're plants will love that.

I have a couple of annuums that are exhibiting that no growth behavior. If they don't perk up soon, I'll just toss them. I started more than I was going to plant anyway.

Garden above looks awesome.  I haven't had real walleye in like 25 years. I can still remember how good it is.  A fish market near me sells it and I know its walleye as they leave the skin on the fillets, but its still not the same as those walley you pull out of the water yourself.

Got the front garden tilled and ready for the cold crops to go in.  Home Depot has their fruit trees on sale so I picked up a bartlett and a tart cherry tree.  Lots of planting to do this weekend and some potting up as most all of the tomatoes are now up.

Front garden with 18 cubic feet of peat added to it.  Loved how it did in the raised beds, so added some to the gardens.

Soil looks great! It kind of looks indoors with the fencing.

Glad to see plants in the dirt and that white cover crop tilled in ;)

Well it is three weeks from plant out, so I will start the hardening process soon.  Still having some sub freezing temps here.  The grow room has been without heat for a while, but the lights were keeping it pretty nice.  For the last week, I have been leaving the door open so they get into the sixties at night, and not so hot during the day.

Plants look so good right now.  It amazes me how crappy and small they will look when they first get planted out.

The tomatoes never made it to the grow room.  Kept them in a secondary and cooler location to try to sturdy them up some.

Fantastic looking plants Jeff.

Just about time you got the ones outdoors that will go in the hoop houses, right? Mine have been in the hoop house all week hardening off so I know you shouldn't be far behind.

Been running a bit behind.  Was sick since Thursday and finally went to doctor Monday to find I have bronchitis....sure was nice to get a good nights sleep last night.  Felt really good this morning.  Doctor also said I have allergies.  Sure hope it isn't to pepper pollen lol.  Even had a fever with this crap.

Finally opened up Greg's Red Fury.  OMG it was a lot hotter than I remembered it to be last year.  I put a bunch on some walleye and proceeded to get the ole heartbeat in the sinuses.  WOW.  Same flavor as last year though.  Good stuff!!!  Thanks Greg.

Walleye is sooo good. Plants look great!

My main thought in the spring time hoop house is hardening off.  They won't do that under the plastic, so that means bringing them in and out.  Which is okay when the night temps aren't so horrid, I can leave them in my garage.  But last week I had a solid freeze.  Not sure I want to subject young plants to that kind of temp.  That would mean bringing them back into the house.  Not going to happen lol.

Temp is up to 80 degrees just after an hour of coverage.  Outside temp is 60.  Going to check it tomorrow morning.
