What is that I see peeking around the corner at me?  Oh my, it is my favorite girl April.  She can be a moody woman, but I know when I see her good things are about to happen.

Going fishing Monday.  If the ramp at the lake is all iced up still, I am hitting the river.  Prefer the lake as the prespawn has got to be starting to kick.

My nons I planted are growing crazy.  I sure hope I don't have to pot any of those up!!!

Judging by the size of my onions, I will need to start them sooner next season.

Tomatoes are growing well. They may need potted up before long.

Might need to do some more adjusting in the grow room.  Quite possibly a trip to HD for some more lights.  That would be the easy fix.

I still got another tray to plant once the seeds arrive, which should be Monday.

My most recent pot ups in the pepper dept are looking really green.

In a month a lot of the cold tolerant plants will be in the garden as well as a lot of direct sow.  Peppers will start their hardening off process in about 5 weeks.

Still have to fish and have turkey season coming up, so I am about to run crazy until June!!!  Bring it!!!

Keep on Growing everyone.

As you know, it is my 1st year with the onions too. I am amazed how slow they are growing. It seems that they really do need to be started early.

Yes, I found out HD and Lowes really do make as many lights as I could buy. There is plenty left for you.

What are you starting on Monday?

I grew onions from seed one time. I planted in October for a mid January dirt day, that was perfect timing. By luck of course. Last year nothing came up, not a one, I guess the seed was bad.

I've been hearing the Turkeys gobble in the distance, we have one that we see strutting in the field for the last few years, really hard to get a pic.

Jeff, when I up-pot tomatoes I bury the plant and just leave the crown exposed. It helps with the leggy-ness and the stem turns to root.

Hoping for warmer weather your way!

The ten or so packs of seeds I ordered from my ebay vendor.  Some is direct sow, but there will be another tray to plant.

Not worried about leggyness as that will be fixed come plant out.  Just going from a 72 cell tray to 70 3 1/2 pots will be more than my small 2 foot table can handle.

I got the turkey itch about as bad as the walleye itch!!!

Question for all you wooden raised bed people.  What type of wood do you use?  I was thinking cedar, but don't want to pay HD price for a finished side.  I am  thinking about moving my strawberry tire and putting in a raised bed there for about 30 pepper plants or so.  Nothing too big.

Landscape timbers. Cheap, pressure treated to last and they no longer use arsenic so it isn't harmful to plants either.

You guys talking railroad ties??

Oh and during watering today I found me a present.

How many high, did you bolt them together, and what is their longevity?

Many thanks.

About this high, but remember, I was terracing a hill.

I used 1/2" steel round bar since I work for a steel fabricator, but rebar would work just as well. 2' long pieces. IIRC, treated wood will last 20 years or so.
The price for the boards was cheaper than in the link I posted.

Wow love the pods HJeff! When do you stop pinching buds? I'd love to hear more about the fried chicken breast... looks like you use panko?

I won't know when I stop pinching buds until I start pinching buds...so far, I haven't started :)

Cracker crumbs on the chicken fried in a skillet.

Fishing was slow slow slow today.  I think all the cold weather has them running behind schedule.  Less than a week ago you could walk on the lake, now it is ice free.

I always wanted to get there earlier than I have in years past thinking I was missing some of the pre spawn activity.  I think I am ahead of schedule this year.

SWT was 40-42 so I need to check my notes from last year.

I did manage two smallmouth bass, so I got the 2014 skunk out of the boat.  Everything is working fine too.

Jeff, smallies are good eatin'! (Well, in really cold water, which yours was.) I used the last of your Burg 7 fish blend on some crappie nuggets that I fried last night. Good to get the jinx off the boat early. I was down at dock the warm day we had a week ago, blowing out spring carb clean, took for a run just to blow out, put new plugs in, couldn't stand it; caught two stray crappie; not moved up yet here, poor things are weather-confused--I know you don't like them but I love them--froze in buttermilk. When I made my fish blend I followed your Burg 7 fish taste. Love that stuff!

Congrats on pube pod!! (I mean, speaking of peppers on THP  ;)  )

Pube Pod Peeking Prohibited!!!!

Stopped off at HD and picked up some landscape timbers.  Going to make it 16x4 feet and see what I can fit into it.  I mentioned to them that Menards had timbers at about 60 cents cheaper than their price and they price matched it, without even looking it up.  Next time I will have to tell them its two bucks cheaper lol.

Was going to hit the river below the dam for some sauger but it is nasty windy out and I don't like doing anything in this kind of wind.  So, I planted the last of my indoor sow.

Thinking on the raised bed of planting lettuce all the way around the outside edge of it.  Won't take up much room and won't be in the way of the peppers.  Will have to backfill one end of it to keep it level.

What soil mix do you all use for your raised bed soil?  Definitely going with composted cow manure and probably some peat.  Not sure if I should use black dirt or go with some kind of garden soil.  I would like to keep it loose.

I think I will have my cousin drop me a dump truck load of black dirt where I want the raised bed at.  I can level the area as I go and I am thinking about putting in two beds now.  That will definitely solve any extra pepper issue I might have.  Will have to amend the heck out of the dirt though.  If its the same dirt as he brought me for the back garden it sure will grow nice tomatoes.

How much is perlite for a huge bag of it.  Might just use organics to loosen the soil, but perlite might do the trick better.
