I get todonate blood!!! Yea!!!

I use to do apheresis as often as allowed, and when asked donate white blood cells, then my hemocrit level got too high. Couldn't do it any more, though I have tried in the last 15 years. This week, Hoxworth (the local vampires) called and asked if I would donate whole blood, since they need A+. I gave them the same excuse, letting them know I would love to but my crit level is too high. The guy I was talking with said that may not be a problem, that he would check it out and let me know. He did - called back in about four minutes and said I can donate whole blood.

Two things come to mind - one if I donate a pint or two of blood, my crit level should drop low enough to allow me to do apheresis again. Secondly, I HATE needles. I refuse to watch them stick them in my arms. I almost punched one nurse out because she insisted I had to watch. She changed her mind and demand!

Do you donate blood?

Mike

I used to but they changed the criteria and won't allow donations from people who have previously lived in the UK.

I've donated blood many times. Last time I was in the doctors office they asked for a urine sample, a stool sample, and a sperm sample.........I left them my underwear.

Yes... :woohoo:
I definately Donate whenever I can. Last time was about two months ago which means that soo I will be donating again pretty soon...
I love that you can help give someone else at least the hope of life.
And RIGHT ON TO THOSE WHO DONATE OR HAVE DONATED BEFORE

I can't donate blood. My blood is so flammable from all those martinis(mmmmmm.........gin........) i've drank that a hazmat crew has to be called if any of it spills or touches air........

I have never been able to. I have recieved blood on many occacions and I am very greatful to averyone who donate the liqiud of life. My lowest hemoglobin value was 21 g/L, the normal value for a man in 140 to 180 g/L. I still meet doctors who've heard of me and who is amazed that I'm still alive.

You are a hero wordwiz!

I have given blood but sometimes my iron is too low. If I get a clean bill of health from all the checkups I am getting in the next few months, I will try again.

I think its really important and kudos to wordwiz for continuing to try!

why wont Australians take UK blood?

I really, really, have hated needles since I was a child, but when I was in the hospital at 17 they took so much blood out of me to test me for illnesses I figured I could stand it to help someone else in the hospital.

It gets better. My 18 year old daughter, who is terrified of needles and my 27-year old son are also going with me to donate. The vampire hunters will score some extra points, at least hopefully!

Apparently there is a SILLY RULE THAT SAYS PEOPLE OF SHORT STATURE ARE NOT ABLE TO DONATE BLOOD. I have no idea why but at 4' 10" they don't think I qualify.

I have donated blood many times - and as a nurse I have had the pleasure of sticking people with a needle more times than I can count

I don't mind getting stuck with a needle either - When I worked at the hospital and nursing students would come in for clinicals I would offer to let them do their first IV stick on me - I figured the patients had problems enough already without having to have someone who had never done a stick before practice on them
