Igloo building

So I figured I'd try my hand at this. It's not easy at all. Used a breadpan to make my iceblocks since none of the snow is crusted yet but I'll probably make a huge one next month.

will probably finish it Thursday, I don't have any daylight during the work week to do anything with it.

It's super sturdy, won't be going anywhere until probably April when the melt starts

yeah it *might* be big enough to stretch all the way out by the time I'm done getting the excess snow out of the floor of it. it was supposed to be 6ft diameter but idk what happened, ice gremlins or something

Probably will be ok because it's so thick but it's supposed to be around 35F today! I'm really hoping to finish it on Thanksgiving XD

Have you ever tried building a snow cave? Where you shovel up a big pile of snow, let it sinter and then carve a living space out of the inside. They're easier to build and are really durable.

well it's been 40F for the past two days. Unfortunately it's nothing but a slushy zit in the yard currently.

I built one last year in TN and had a side fire pit and cooler. Actually got WAY too hot inside. I need to dig up pictures.

Well, given the 'shrinkage' and issue with the missing door, a little more practice probably isn't a bad thing.

Very cool.
I almost tried to build an Igloo when I lived up in Northern AZ at the Grand Canyon in 73 or so.
Got too busy with work and couldn't find the time to work on it.
Mine was going to be about 12ft in diameter.
I only got mine 1/4 built.At most.
It got filled with snow and due to neglect by me turned into a giant ice cube.
Snow melted and froze so I ended up with a 12Ft. diameter ice cube.
Ended up too hard to chip away the inside and too much work to try and start again.

How about this for snow?

IIRC we got over 470" of snow that winter. Want to build an igloo? Hell just dig a hole! Haha.
