It's never too early to get started!

Sooo... 2022 season is over and most of my 2023 plants are already there - no reason not to start a new thread already! 😃

See my previous glog... https://thehotpepper.com/threads/2022-too-early-to-get-started.75362/

While all my current plants are technically overwinterers, only a couple have grown through the 2022 season and are considered interesting enough to keep for next seasons grow.

Let's start with the famous Schneider farms SB plant, which will be going into it's third season in 2023. It currently doesn't look all that nice but that was also the case during the winter of 2021 so no worries here...

Next in row is my Scotch Brains plant...

And then there's the Humble Servants Homestead (HSH) SB, which was also elected to stay for next season...

All 3 are topped. The yellow ones hardly grow their branches while the red (which is also from WHP) grows huge branches...

Took the majority of the plants outside this week. It's still quite cold outside during the night but I don't expect temperatures to drop below 5°C anymore. It's more the slugs I'm worried about...

The remaining 5 plants will probably follow tomorrow.

I'm really looking forward to the next episode in this years grow! :onfire:Can't wait!
And of course I'm already very busy thinking about what to grow next season. 😁:seeya: It will likely be similar to this season but fewer varieties (does that sound familiar? 🤔).

With all the room currently free inside, I'm already thinking about starting something else. The blood ghost to be more precise... To me it will likely be just an ornamental...

Plants are doing fine outside despite the buckets of rain and not-so-great temperatures of the past week. I do actively have to fight slugs though, otherwise my season would have been over already...

Meanwhile inside...
Hey look! A hook 😃

It's a yellow bhut, that I planted together with some blood ghost seeds. No sign of life from the blood ghost though...

Slugs are a major pest this season and all garden centers are out of repellents. So I bought a slug wall to put around my plants. Based on the reviews it should work great, I hope it does!

In the mean time the weather is extremely wet. It's a big contrast compared to the previous seasons that were extremely dry. It's also not really warm outside either. I really hope my plants will actually produce some peppers...

The Lesya does produce, that is certain...

The other plants are all flowering but no pods have set yet...

I never tasted the MOA before, I'm very curious to know how they compare to the other varieties. I hope they start producing soon. The weather is still not in favor...

The last couple of days were without rain but temperatures remain way too low for the time of the year. And it shows on the plants... most aren't growing properly. Actually it was a good thing that I started my grow so early as the oldest plants are now full of flowers and a bonnet is growing here and there.

The Lesya is growing some nice sized fruits...

A couple of bonnets...

The largest plant is the MOA red (right), and on the left next to it is the bahamian goat...

This is the nicest plant... jamaican long scotch bonnet...

I put all pots inside a "slug wall", which is supposed to keep the slugs out. And it actually works!

The little ghost peppers are growing nicely, but then they grow inside in a cozy environment...

I'm currently also trying to germinate some of those jeromin seeds that I extracted from smoke dried pimenton peppers. No success for now though. Too bad because those are a great annuum pepper. Maybe I should use the "charapita" metod? 😁
Of course it is way too late to start any peppers at this time... or is it too early? 🤔

We had some stormy weather yesterday with lots of rain (tell me something new 🙄) and some nasty wind. I didn't check my plants until this evening and found that the yellow MOA from Semillas broke off at the soil level! I first threw the plant on the compost pile but then noticed that a few roots were still present at the bottom of the stem. So I took it back and trimmed the remains of the plant, leaving only the stem and a couple of short branches. Also removed the large leaves. Then I put it back into some soil. It now has a cozy warm place under the grow lights, next to the ghost pepper seedlings. It's sad because it was about to start flowering. Maybe I can turn it into a bonchi right away...
