JutsFL pepper glog - 2014 (first from seed grow)

Here goes everyone, definitely new to the site - but I've been growing peppers for fun for a while. Not exactly how I did It this year though. I've always used the starter plants from local nurseries, but decided to have my hand at a from seed grow this time. I wanted something more substantial this time, not just the few plants that I had always had in the past. It's a learning experience for sure, and it took a lot of researching to make the switch from a small hobby grow to a larger from seed hobby grow. I was always fine with a small amount of peppers before, but I got the itch this year.... And here we are.

First I constructed my grow box...

Originally had the FlouroWing grow light, then added 2 more 6500k lights as an addition...all on timers

Now the seed starting... I used a heating mat and some cheap plastic condiment containers from Walmart. It worked amazingly well, and kept the moisture in just right. Had to keep an eye on them because once they sprouted, there's not much room till it hits the top! I planted (on the first round) hot Hungarian wax, t. Moruga scorpion, Carolina reaper, red bell, Fresno, and pablano.

Annnnnnnd the site gives me an error message and won't allow me to add the rest of the photos... Suppose that's all for now folks :/

And here they are in the box...

How long did the seed take to germinate? and what method where you using(the toothpicks and cup of water one)?
How old is the plant now?
It took 3 full months for it to crack the seed! I used the toothpick method, and I think it's around 7 or 8 months old now (including the germination time)

Finally added a drip irrigation system! Supper stoked on finally making it happen, watering everyday with the damn peppers was becoming quite the handful. This should make life much easier now :)

Here's the video link if y'all wanna see -

Neat, how frequent does it water the plants?
Still tinkering with it... Started with 10 min every 12hr. Then to 5min every 4 hrs. Think I may go back to the twice a day schedule though - but for 7-8 min. It takes some fiddling I'm noticing to really tune in.

Thats a nice setup.Does the last pot get the same as the first pot?I'm thinking yes since the pressure is the same. What kind and where did ya get the drip system?

Very nice grow Down bud keep up the good work. Cheapest potting soil known to man huh, that's funny! Let me guess the wally world or home depot, $1.29 white bag special "potting soil" I started w/ that, now I don't get any soil at all, just buy perlite and lava rock as needed for drainage, the rest is old forest soil, compost"from my own yard" and a little bit of Carolina red clay thrown in for iron an such!
Oh sorry to get off topic, plants look great and nice harvest

Ya, the pressure works out so they all get the same. And it's the Mister Landscaper version, it's sold at Lowes - but I ordered all pieces individually online to customize what I needed.

...the white bag special is exactly it :D
And thank you!

...well, I'm bored and it's around 2:15am here. A few drinks down and checking the ole pepper field. Random shot here of the canopy of one of the 'red savina's' - my guesstimate is about 3.5-4ft diameter. Fully loaded and branches sagging under the weight!

Nice setup, great looking pepper heaven.
Looks like you're on your way to large harvests, what do you intend to do with all them peppers?

Mostly sauces, and a bunch of powders ... Then I'll likely be giving away the excess peppers to my neighbors (they're all looking forward to it!).

Monster plants, dude!

You mention cheap potting soil and pike bark. Can I ask what ferts you're using?
Mostly MG tomato formula, and sometimes the cheaper walmart version called 'expert gardener'. I use them full strength once a week. Occasionally I add some Cal to the mix, but that's really it. The only other additions the plants have seen was when they were first potted: I added some mychorriazae and azomite to the hole.

Cool.  That happens to be some of the stuff I've got.

I always enjoy seeing a frugal operation do well. It's a mild 'finger' to the marketing monkeys that try so hard to make us buy expensive, unnecessary crap.

Do you change the ferts you use as the season progresses?  MG's NPK ratios are nearly balanced, while the 'Expert' is heavy on the P.

I did... I used the MG until they were putting on a bunch of flowers, then I hit them w the expert until pods set... Now that the pods are on I've reverted back to the MG.

Well guys, long story short - FL storms can kiss my arse!!!

Came back from vacay: found 9 of sixteen plants knocked over... 4 split in half from the pod weight and rain... And half of all the peppers on the toppled ones are rotted from laying on the soggy ground.

Here's a couple shots of some of the mess:

I did manage to salvage this harvest though after tossing all the rotten peppers and broken limbs littered with green pods:

...and it's pouring right now again, looked outside - 1 plant is totally devastated! Snapped right in half at the main stalk :/

Hate to hear and see all that damage. Been in Tampa the last few days and had some nasty storms rolling through. Here. Have managed to save some split limbs if it wasn't too long since it happened by tying them back up and duct taping them back together. Plants are looking great otherwise and cranking mad pods.
