LunchBox's GLOG - WARNING: POD PORN

Hi...I'm new to growing, and having a problem germinating seeds. I've used the damp paper towel in a ziplok before, and it usually works. Over the summer, I seeded about 3/4 pound of t-scorps, and have tried to test-germinate 10 or so seeds, 3 times now. They go from a firm, straw colored seed, to a yellowish brown, and start looking slimey after a few days. I'm not sure if I harvested the seeds wrong, but have done this a few times before with jalapenos, and scotch bonnets, (and a few others) and they germinated just fine.

Any ideas what I may be dong wrong, or suggestions? I have a few hundred seeds, but I don't want to waste them all trying to geminate them unsuccessfully.

Thanks

Scorps have lost most leaves up to the fork in the branch...and about 1/4 or so up top. Almost all flowers and fertilized buds have since fallen off. There is some new green growth here and there, and new blossoms beginning to form. Are tehse plants just regrouping to come back strong...or have I hurt them?

They might have been shocked by the sun, temperature changes, and wind. New growth should appear soon and will be able to withstand the elements much better.

Kinda what I was thinking. I noticed the hand-sized leaves all yellowed, and fell off...but the smaller leaves hung in, and are creating more smaller leaves. I'm guessing the large leaves were a product of being indoors, and the plant now "knows" it doesn't need leaves that size...a bunch of smaller ones will do better for more direct sunlight...whereas the big leaves will only block sun to parts of the plant. Just a guess though.

On a lighter note...the beast I have potted in the teacher's lounge (the super-scorp that lost a cotyledon before it ever sprouted first leaves) is quite large, and has about half a dozen little peppers already on it. I shake it a few times per school day, but I'm thinking there are insects helping me out inside the building. I was worried a little about the cleaning crew stealing peppers...but I doubt they'll steal more than one. :)

PS: This is my strongest, healthiest plant. It has 10 pods, and another half dozen or so that are fertilized, and should fruit. Oh...this was the "runt" that lost a cotyledon, and was the shortest in all the pics.

Garden as of now: (the bare spot is actually full of seedlings)

My Garden-Warrior..."Tito The Wonder-Toad". After putting him in service...I my Armyworm population was reduced to ashes. I haven't found but one in a month's worth of dedicated service.

Nice glog man! Some heat going on there. Nice and green. That naga looks mean. You say the Nagas are a BBQ must.... how do you use em out of curiosity? Love to BBQ and love some good recipes. I haven't ate a Naga yet but heard they weren't the greatest tasting pepper, but will have some in about a month or so off my plants.

For BBQ, I normally dry them, and powder them. Mix with your own home made BBQ rub, and you're set. For fresh naga morich...you can boil them onto tome home made bbq sauce. I also like to dice one fresh with some garlic and mix it into hamburger meat...mmm

*All organic.

I'm using natural means to control pests...and I scoop the scum-water from the horses' watering troughs for fertilizer-water.

That's it.

Thanks...I'm impressed by the heat in these early season pods. I'm not enjoying fungal rot in some of my naga varieties.

Is that veggie patch at the school or at home?

That caterpillar is freakin huge, make good fishing bait that would.

Mezo.

Home...and I need to get an updated pic of it...it is a jungle now.

Over the next week...I'll need to run a post, and a support up top...and string up the maters. They are collapsed over the cages, and running out 6 feet more.

But...my chiles are doing well.

Oh...Tito (the Wonder Toad) welcomes you.

Interesting...14 hours ago, I had 2 seedlings with cotyledons out and rocking...and a few more arched up, ready to deploy. I brought them out of the sunlight, and into the house, at a contant 75F temp. 9 of 10 popped up within hours, and deployed their first leaves. Still waiting on one. But it seems as if temperature is a HUGE factor in seedling development of Scorps. Assuming these survive...I'll keep the 3 strongest for myslef, an sell the remaining to a friend that owns a farmer's market.

Unit deployed.
Base, under attack.
....Unit ready....Unit ready....Unit ready....
