Mattys first ever Glog "Into the fire" 2019 season

Hello everyone and thanks for looking at my "Into the Fire" Glog!!

So I started my gardening hobby in my early 20's about 16 years ago now, and though I have played around with many types of flowers/vegis  tomato's is what most of my energy was put into. I loved alll the different colors and types that could be grown which really reminds me of all the exciting Chilli variety's that exist today. A couple seasons ago while looking for some info on a particular type of sweet pepper I stumbled onto a few videos of some people eating super hots (Ghost,Reapers ect..).  After looking into it a little more I figured this would be a very interesting thing to grow even just as a novelty since really no one in my area grows much if anything at all.

Last Winter I went and bought some seeds from Ebay..one was a mixed bag Ghost/Reaper/Scorpion...another was the Peter Pepper and the third was some type of Thai i believe. Only the Thai ended up growing true to type and the other 2 was a Cayenne and Ornamental. I was pretty disappointed when they did finally start putting out pods. It was around that time I started looking for a group or forum dedicated to Chillis, and luck would have it I found THP and all of you fantastic peoples.

Anyways with the boring back story outta the way I really planned ahead for this years grow....I built a 6'Hx6'Lx2'D grow box (not exact mesurments) which has 3 shelves and the middle one able to come out if I wnated to grow larger plants from the bottom tier. I went overkill on seed types making 3 decent size buys, 2 of which were 30+ from Garth at TexasHotPeppers and a smaller one from a fella in Arz.

I do not plan to grow all of these as my wife would kill me, but 20 or so might not be so bad.

Will also get some pics up shortly here of my grow box which still has one more shelf I need to wire up just waiting on a few more strip lights to arrive in the mail, but will still give an idea of what it will all look like when its done.

In final: This is a new hobby for me within the hobby I already enjoy...I am going to try some new things (new for me) and even the much earlier starts then normal will be interesting to see how it all comes out at the end.  I look forward to the input from the community and keeping this glog updated as much as I can.

Here is too success in 2019!!

Um, I have had these buggers camped out right outside both the front and back doors. They sure keep one on their toes!

That is absolutely terrifying Scott....Like snakes do not exactly scare me if I can see it in front of me, but I will jump if I get surprised by them. Now..to even think of something poisonous nipping you at anytime gives me shivers. I would absolutely be freaking out with worry about my dogs all the time, almost need to keep a pet mongoose or soemthing around eh.

Edit - 2 PTs same thread same day....Mattys on fi-yaaaa   :fireball: :fireball: :fireball:

OK, I'm all caught up Heinz57 here now.

Great things going on Matt, glad you're feeling better! what's this aboot thang, can't 'yall speel thar?

I bet if you came down here you couldn't understand our slang anymore than we could yours..LOL

Keep it green buddy!

Nothing really exciting to update after the weekend.....Believe I got the edema situation under control now by spreading things out abit better on the shelves and running more fans, though I did not have any time at all this weekend to repot anything which I had planned. However, as I added to Andys thread earlier one of the dogs decided to help out with my crowding situation and munched on aboot 7-8 plants pretty hard, a couple of which I only had 1 or so of that particular type which kinda ticked me off to say the least.

Bunch of my bells and sweet peppers are almost ready to be transferred into they're own pots, as well a large % of my maters have germinated which is nice.....maybe 5 types did not pop yet so I went ahead and reseeded those.

And finally had to fight my way into the shed Saturday afternoon again.....Its like the 3rd time I have had to clear away a good 2+ ft of snow at the door and break a trail in and out pulling a sled to pack it down. Frozen bags of soil are not the lightest things to carry so jsut brought in 3 bags of potting mix and 1 bag of peat moss for now. Piled a few more next to the house so they are easier to get at if I need them.

Ha! I know your snowed-out shame!! I have a 7 foot snowberm blocking access to my shed, I'm sure glad I got special dispensation from the Darlin' Bride to bring my 80# of coco coir & potting mix inside.

Besides, did you know that there's enough moisture infused into a bag of peat-base potting soil to freeze it into a chunk of concrete?........I bet you did....

LOL 7 ft thats too funny but it truly does suck the big one all the same.

I think for next year I will keep it on or under the deck once the fall rolls around just so I don't have to fight that damn shed anymore...Its literally becoming a job just to get soil out of it.

And I totally know the feeling of those bags...More then 1 at a time when frozen is terrible to carry...even more so through a bunch of deep snow. Think you and Skullbiker are maybe 5 hours from me or so give or take?? pretty damn near identical climates.

So think i was seeing some signs of maybe some calcium def perhaps?? So I gave the plants a spray down of my egg shell soak I made a few weeks ago....House now stinks to high hell, I am home all day today though so will light some candles and spray it before my wife gets home or there will be hell to pay.

Matt, I'm exactly 4 hours south of Winnipeg, do your math accordingly.....

Yeah so my guess is prolly pretty close as I am exactly 4H east of Winterpeg

So just punched it into the Google to see what they had to say and according to them it 5 hours 56mins so 500km (310M)...So I am abit off but not too terrible.

I have not been down your way only to Deluth and a few day trips to international falls for various reasons though its been a couple years now since the last one.

Crank those festive lights up good and high tonight Matty. It's the Lundi Gras party night now and Fat Tuesday coming tomorrow

Literally just cranked those bad boys on before I sat down a few seconds ago Dee...will go crank on an extra set just for you even.

The maters could really use abit of extra light  at the point they are now, but hey I would do it for a party anyways

One of the fonder memories of my childhood and driving around with my dad in his big beastie cars with the music cranked

I walked right by tending the BBQ pit.

And thank goodness we don't get snow down here. Bhut I must admit, the day I got my license in the mail, in NY @ 16 there was snow on the ground. Spent the day driving sideways :shh:  It sure was a blast ;)
