GETTING???? LOL - I'm not really that uptight about it - just thought I'd help out those with questions, not to mention let you know how I'm defining Asian since you asked that we narrow things down. But it's all good!

Yes geeme, narrowing it down, thanks. I just pictured some squigly line on a map and imagined the confusion!

It's all good that's what these discussions are for, right? :D

Let's break it down...

Possibilities
1. All of Asia (7 continent model)
2. SE Asia - The land of spice and curries
3. Asian fusion - Any Asian country with another cuisine (ex: Cajun Curry)
4. Dim Sum
5. Wok cooking
6. Middle Eastern
7. Indian and Pakistani
8. Korean
9. Chinese
10. Japanese
11. Eastern Asian (excludes Middle East)
12. Curries!
13. Asian BBQ

Can we use a map of pangea? Then, SE asia could include Mexico, and I wants me some carnitas!!!

I'm just so gosh-darned impressed you know what Pangea is.... ;)

Edit: Not sure where you're going to find dinosaur for those carnitas, tho.....

I like SE Asian because otherwise you leave out things like Malaysian, Laotian, Thai - the list could get HUGE if you start listing individual countries. At the same time, I can see the logic behind breaking out Korean, Japanese, and Chinese if SE Asian was going to be too broad. Otherwise, since I like trying things I've never tried before, how about another category for "SE Asian except Korean, Japanese, and Chinese"?

I could totally do Funyuns, or any other chip-type snack - doritos, fritos, cheetos - made into an entree/meal. But at the same time....... ASIAN has been on my mind. (Sorry Ray....)

Being a bbq chef, and May being national bbq month, I will have to vote for bbq. While I may have a different definition of bbq than most folks, I'd suggest that anything cooked in the barbacoa style, whether on a pit or a grill, would qualify. I love my pizza too, but suck at cooking it, so my vote is for bbq!

Got my vote too!

see i dont consider Indian and Pakistani part of "asian" cuisine

thats more middle eastern to me, as they do not use the same seasonings or cooking styles.

Oh yeah:
It's not a definition, it's geographical. It's north not south.

Since when do I have to comply with convention????? I will continue to use the spellings "tomatoe" and "wierd", and ignore Wikipedia to my heart's content...

But on a more serious note: Until when can we vote?
