Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

i forgot i sent you some of the Peach T.S. take good care of them there kinda rare at the moment, my friend and i are working on getting it a little more well known

i really dont have enough seed to sell this year and thats why i took it of my list

i had sent NOVA in OZ some but Australian custom seized them for some reason??, sad thing was they where well within the guidelines of there requirments (no pepper pieces with the seeds and no mold) really very upsetting

but as i said Mellissa take good care of them not many out there have them to my knowledge

please post pics of them when there ripe, i sure they all wanna see what they look like, if mine make it past the torrential rain, sun scald and slugs, i will post pics of mine

hopefully there will be a larger amount of seeds for the Peach T.S. available this fall

thanks your friend Joe
I was sad when you took them off the list I think I still have the photo you sent me of them i will post here if I still have it. Hopefully they do Joe.
Edit:
I accidentally dump the picture while I was cleaning my e-mail, but AjiJoe was willing to resend the picture so everybody could see what the TS peach looks like.

Thanks AjiJoe and sorry Melissa for hijacking your thread for a minute

i was sad i had to too, i really wanted to share more of them, but i knew the demand would very quickly outstrip the supply, so in fairness and honesty i took um off

yes you would have the pod pics, those where the only ones i had, i poked around way too much taking a pic of the plant and then the ice storm in october wiped it out, this is the other reason that caused the seed shortage

i sure i will have at least one plant again this year, i have one really strong one so things are looking up

thanks your friend Joe

im with emon looking good!!

Thanks Joe!

You are the poo Melissa! Love your little poser too! Please post some bad plant pics to make me feel better! Not too far behind you, but damn sure not close enough! Keep up the great grow and pics.
Shane

Shane I may have to take a picture of a ugly plant for you, trust me I have a few, MAYBE. :P I have a hard time showing the bad apples, trust me I have some! Been having problems with earwigs in my large bed, little bastards are feasting on the leaves! If anyone ever tells you earwigs only eat decaying matter, they are lying! lol. Haven't figured out how to control them yet, besides night time killing sprees with a flash light! Hope all is well in your world, I am sure you will catch up in no time. :)

Yes Melissa, You are the s**t! I can't even post pics of my plants for fear of embarassment!! But in my defense this is the third straight record breaking heat day in a row here in Vegas (103 here in boulder) and breezy (10-20mph breeze) Lol. My plants won't "put out" like yours probably until sept.-oct. So nice to see what's ahead.

Thanks as always Emon! I have to give it to you, I could never live in the vegas heat let alone garden in it! Two thumbs up to you! My favorite place to be in vegas is an air conditioned casino! :P Take care

Fun, reading, excitement at every turn. My question is, what happens when 300 turns into 3000 ? OMFG...

Time to make a career change.

300 posts in three months will become 3000. But wait, you won't have enough time to take pics and
interact with members, you will be too busy tending, selling, trading and processing peppers !!!

Ghosty...

Thanks Ghosty, I am glad you are enjoying this journey through pics with me! This has been a huge undertaking for me, and it is getting hard to manage by myself. It hasn't been easy, I have had my breaking points and I am sure more to come. But I am enjoying every part of this crazy adventure of mine. I wouldn't be where I am today without one really great mentor and all the awesome people here on THP! And you are absolutely right, pretty soon I won't be able to interact and update the glog as much, so for now I will get in as much as I can. Take care Ghosty! ;)

WOW, 300 plants and still have time to keep up with the young'uns. You must have great organizational skills and a really neat sock drewer too.

Pods are looking good and what did Joe call your mystry pepper a Firecracker Tepin, very nice. I love that shade of Purple. I may have to look for some seeds for next year.

Keep 'em growing strong,
RM

Oh RM, don't give me that much credit! lol. I wish I had the time to be organized with this grow, too many plants plus the kiddos, I need to hire me some help!! I do make sure the family is taken care of though, and that includes my plants. I am sure I will have some seeds to spare for you come harvest time :)

Wow Melissa plants look amazing my plants are barely starting to get pods or have flowers. I didn't even realize you had 300 plant I can not image how your harvest are going to look. I was having the same issue today with the root pouches a pain in the butt to tranfer the plant need to get my neighbor help so I didn't damage the plant. I sent my sister the pot and she is going to sew some for me I just need to find the material (Downtown fashion district for some alley shopping) and decide on the dimensions. I was considering to do something like the geopots with the velcro on the side for easier transplanting and double layer with another material in between to prevent from drying to quickly. I am excited to see how your TS peach matures.

Hey Fernando! I can't wait for some harvests, tired of all work and no reward! You are doing just as good as me with the pods, the 7 pot Burgundy and Tobago Scotch are two I can't wait to try, and you got pods set already! You are going to have some great harvests, especially with that killer enclosure you and the pops built! Excellent idea on making your own pots, and the fashion district for material. My mom makes hooded towels and crochet hats for the kiddos, I have been telling her we need to go buy her supplies there. Going to see how she feels about making me a few massive pots, thanks for the idea! Keep up the good work Fernando.

I will take really good care of them Joe and will send seeds your way this season. I knew that strain was special when I saw it, I will make sure it lives on for others to grow out as well.

No worries Fernando, don't mind one bit, that is a beautiful pepper and I can't wait to see how mine turn out!

So I have to give it to my babe, he was a champ today! I ordered 5 yards of potting soil because that was the minimum order for delivery. He moved the entire 5 yards to our backyard by himself, and this is what it looks like! lol. The kiddos are spending fri/sat night with grandma and grandpa so mommy and daddy can get to work.

Lovely colors on the Cascabella's! I didn't know there was a Peach TS, that looks awesome! Here are my pathetic Chocolate Hand Grenade plants:

IMAG0959.jpg

IMAG0958.jpg

They got messed up by those :censored: aphids... changed the soil and cleaned the plant. They are showing new growth luckily :)

Hi Melissa! Your Cascabella's are looking cute! It was super productive for me when I grew it, and not quite as hot as a jalapeno, but more consistent with its heat level.

You and your hubby certainly have your work cut out for you this weekend. Hope you find some time in there to relax!

I had trouble with earwigs on my zucchini last year. I've read that diatomaceous earth is supposed to help, but since I haven't even got mine planted yet (stupid weather, grrrr!) I don't know for sure if it works. I'll let you know later this season.

Shane is right, I need to see at least one picture of a pitiful looking plant on your growlog to make me feel better, LOL!!!

Peppers are very tough plants, I bet they will make a full recovery for you! Death to aphids! :)

Oh Bonnie, boy did we have our work cut of for us this weekend. I am beyond beat, it hurts to move at this point! lol. Thanks for the tip on DE, I had read about it and plan to try it now. I seriously thought I was having a slug problem until I went out one night and saw earwigs everywhere grubbing on my plants! I had no idea they would eat plants until then, now it's nightly hunts with a flash light and glove on so I can squish the little bastards! :) I will work on that ugly pic for you and Shane, haha!

Melissa, there are baits that get earwigs like slugs...Maybe I can find it and post a link.

http://www.google.co...iw=1366&bih=667

Thanks Shane, I checked this out on Amazon and it had crappy reviews. I think I will try the DE first, I already sprayed with Azamax and came out the next morning to find some dead on plants. That's what they get!

Melissa I think I found the name of the green pod with black streaks its a Cap 1546 eximium x ulupica Inca Berry grew it last year look similar. I pm Joe to confirm so we will see. Awesome pictures as usual.
http://thehotpepper....og/page__st__80

Thanks for the info Fernando, it definitely looks like the same pods. Some have turned completely black now. That plant has at least 30 pods set, looks really nice. Been a busy weekend, need to catch up on everyone's glogs, I bet you have some more great pics up as well! :)

Hi Robert, thanks for stopping in!! I will definitely have some of these for sale later in the season, the first harvest I will be keeping for ourselves. The husband asked to try one in the purple stage yesterday, so I agreed and took a bite myself. WOW, nice flavor and plenty of heat! My tongue and lips were burning for awhile, but in a good way. This is a keeper for sure, not only is it beautiful to look at, it also tastes good.

Thx!
Melissa

Man that black scorp tongue is badass! Do you know what color it is when its full ripe?

It just gets better and better huh Bee?! It's turning red, the color transition on this one is awesome! It turns yellow/cream again after purple, then red. Love that plant!! :)

Black Scorpion tongue almost ripe!!

So yesterday was my 30th bday, and what does a chile head ask her brother for her bday??? To take a trip to Home Depot and build me a badass raised bed of course!! :D My brother Nick is the BEST!! This will be a strictly Chinense bed, have tons left that need to be potted up bad. Didn't feel like doing more 15ga, also didn't want to till up more rock hard clay. So VERY LARGE raised bed it is, made out of cedar to keep the bugs at bay too!! The hubby will fill it up for me when he gets home, plenty of potting soil left over from my 5yd delivery. This bed gets early morning sun and late afternoon, perfect for the chinenses this summer!

black scorp ??? i want some of those. i just started this glogging thang, man it takes a while to look at all pages so i can catch up,hehe.. plants looking great.

thanks your friend Joe

First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Melissa!   Next thing, that black scorpion tongue is sooo cool, I got to get some of those seeds for next year. Your brother hooked you up big time! Way to go Bro! That should be an awesome bed for sure for the chinense. Oh yeah, the plants and pics awesome as always. Emon069
