Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

Hopefully I can get an update in tomorrow! Yours was nice. The Jamaican Hot Yellows are quickly becoming one of my favorites. They're great in cucumber salsa. I agree that those red ones look like a Congo or maybe a Red Savina??? Looking forward to the next video!

Shane the Jamaican yellows are my fave in cucumber salsa too! I love the color contrast they add, plus heat and flavor! Will grow them every year that's for sure. Now that you mention Red Savina, I think that's what those pods are! I am growing that variety this year so it makes sense. Thanks for the input, mystery solved! :)

Pods are looking deliciously HOTTTTT. Way to go

Thanks Pia! :D

HARVEST SHOT BEFORE I GET BACK TO WORK OUTSIDE. HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE!

Nice pull, looks like most everyone is starting to reap rewards!

Thanks! It's been prime growing conditions for me over here, even with the extreme heat we have had! Hoping I can keep the harvest going well in to December :)

Enjoy you're vacation Joe!! Look forward to seeing some pics, if you need some help uploading to photobucket just send me a message. ;) We were suppose to do some reviews this past weekend but it got too hectic :( I did record my brother and hubby eating a Chocolate scotch bonnet, haven't had time to upload it though. I have a box of fire coming this week from a well known grower, I promised to do reviews on them. Both excited and scared at the same time! lol.

Nice pull, Melissa. Keep it up! I harvested a Choc Hand Grenade today

Thanks Stefan! I have a whole lot more to pull today, probably another tray full! Let's see a pic of that Choc Hand grenade!! :D

Nice harvest!!! Glad I could be of assistance on the pod id. Hope it was a correct guess!

Thanks Shane! I am almost positive that's what those pods are, very hot for a hab but definite hab flavor. Going to be taking some individual pod shots soon, cut open pics too, will include that one. :)

Wowzers. Great Harvest. Lots of good heat going on there. Congrats and well deserved

Thanks Pia! Feels great to be harvesting the fruits of my labor! Let's hope I can keep it going thru December! :)

Wow...your plants, pods and food look fantastic! I am starving right now with lunch over an hour away and your stuffed Jals got me feeling like Pooh with an empty honey jar...

That is a Yellow Garden Orb Weaver spider. They get HUGE! If you wanna have some fun toss a grasshopper in its web and watch them spring into action. Its a trip to see how quickly they pounce and wrap them up. They get HUGE in the South, almost the size of my hand. Not as big here, but still a big damn spider! I They're harmless, I have accidentally run into them on trail runs and they quiickly jump off and head for cover.

My Choco habs started brown and went red. I cried...growing into December! Who do you think you are!? You will stop gardening in October with the rest of us and like it! Sorry, that was my jealous side, you are one lucky green thumb. I would kill for an extra two months. Can't wait for your gnarly, scary pods to turn. Keep it up M!

Thanks Shane! I hope you fed you're belly some good food at lunch time, nothing worse than seeing tasty food pics when you are starving! I need to make it over to you're glog today, I am SURE you have some yummy food pics to check out! You are the reason I gave cucumber salsa a try! ;)

Thanks for the info on the spider, I could tell it was an orb weaver by the web. That guy popped up overnight, crazy how quickly they build their webs! He is more afraid of us than we are of him, it's my hubby's new pet! lol. Yesterday he had me come out and watch as he fed it some bugs, you are right, amazing the way they wrap up their prey! He is a keeper that's for sure!

THANKS I WILL NEED SOME HELP

i will have many pics from the fest

your friend Joe

Will be glad to help you out Joe :)

Haha 3/5! Jealousy is no bueno :P BUT I have a feeling you will have a warm winter buddy ;) I am looking forward to a little cool down over here in socal, this heat sucks for being out in the yard! But my plants are loving it so who am I to complain?! I gotta get the indoor grow started, too hot to be running my lights right now. I will NEVER stop growing!! :snooty: LOL! My brothers Choco scorps are gnarly, was hoping they would stay brown but insisted on being a choco/red mutant! Hope all is well!

That meal looks delicious.....That peach bhut is absolutely beautiful. I hope mine next year is half that nice looking. WOW!!!

Thanks Bodeen, it was delicious! I found those monster manzanos at my local market, had to buy them but was rather disappointed with the lack of heat! I wish I could take credit for that peach bhut, that is my brother's plant I gave him, growing in his recycled mix on steroids! lol. Next year I am making him dedicate WAY more space to peppers!! :)

HARVEST SHOT FROM TODAY, MORE TO PICK IN A FEW DAYS! WOOHOO!!

Another great harvest. Just had salsa with the paper lantern in it and loved the heat from those. Is that a lonely lemon drop I see in the picture? They have an excellent crispy crunch when you slice them in half and a wonderful scent. You won't be disappointed in those. About the only thing I don't like about the Jamaican yellows is trying to clean them. I bought a soft bristled toothbrush and it does a good job on them.

How are those peters? Was thinking about trying a plant just so I could give away pods lol.

Your garden is really kicking in now!!!

Wow Melissa, Those harvest shots are starting to look comparable to the "Mighty Shane's"

Those stuffed peppers look crazy good. That's how I do them............no room to breath..................ha

I envy your extended growing season, You'll still be harvesting.....while.I'll be replacing all the bulbs for the winter start-up................. :tear:

Your glog sure produces the "artsy colorful" photos.................grow on with it!

Greg
