Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

nice vid Melissa. every time i visit your GLOG my growlist expands. LOL. i might need to borrow some yard from the neighbor next season.

Thanks Ben! I felt the same way last year! Nothing wrong with trying to turn the neighbor in to a chile head! lol! Between Pepperlover, Aji Joe, Peppermania, smokemaster and various sasbe offers, my list kept growing too! haha! Next season I am going to include some of Vladan's creations and more of Judy's rare varieties! I ALMOST can't wait for off season so I can fire up the indoor tent, bought myself a Quantum Badboy T5 in addition to the T5 I already have. Sure to be a fun winter for me!! :)

Very nice review. Interesting plants to grow I'm sure. Will be checking out your next grow log to see how they are doing.

Thanks Bodeen! Really loving that Peach Habalokia! It's pretty bumpy so I was expecting way more heat, but glad it didn't blow me away and scare me off! haha! That plant is in a 15ga, potted up only a month ago and it is now stretching and bushing out. Should have alot more of those before the season winds down, I have another one in a raised bed starting to flower too. Thanks for stopping in! :)

Wowza! Hot delicious goodness all around you. I couldn't be more proud of you Melissa....I'm going to cry.....sorry, sometimes I get emotional and have to let it all out......bahahahahaha. Great review of the Habalokia, I had one of those that was sent to me by Pulpiteer. I think he called it a peach scorpion but after seeing your review I think it might have been mislabeled. Hope you make a habit of the videos. You and your husband make a good review team. Tell him I want some baja style recipes! NOM NOM NOM. Keep up the good work darlin'!

HEY YOU GUY HAVE CLINCHED IT FOR ME BUT IM GROW IT THIS COMING SEASON IM ALMOST OUT OF SEED!!!!
(however i put some aside) lol
i did noticed you had a little more problem in the respect of facial discomfort, i noticed even though it was not as hot than the yellow 7 it was a different burn wasn't it?? great review !! :fireball: and thanks also i cant take total credit for this one my friend Jim is involved in this one too, this baby is not from my garden but my friends
i never got a chance to try one before they dried and its a sad thing that i deal with so many exciting species i try to taste them all but just cant and this is why im grateful to anyone who does the reviews
thanks your friend Joe

Thanks Stefan! It's hard to keep up with the logs, so many to see right now, no worries! ;) I just picked a pretty large choco hand grenade yesterday, taking it to my mom's tomorrow to hopefully do a review with it! The Tobago scotch is a GREAT producer, not very hot but very tasty! I have already been saving seeds from the pods, will put some aside for you. :)

Thanks, Melissa that would be great :D Nice review, I always have problems with describing the "fruity" flavor as well... As long as it tastes good

3/5 buddy!! I've been missing you in my log!! I am sooooooo glad to hear I have made you proud, I feel like I can actually crown myself a chile head now! hahahaha! I put on my big girl pants and dove in to the world of reviews, how crazy would it be if I grew all these exotic peppers and never tried them fresh?! I have a peach TS too, but it suddenly decided it did not like the soil it was in and refused to put out more than one baby size pod. I gave it a good force feeding and it is now liking it's home and flowering, temperamental lil s**** I tell ya! lol. I will post some pics of that when it has some nice sized pods set. My hubby likes to say the most random ish sometimes, I would like to see these baja style recipes too!! haha! I am sure he will come up with some, the more chiles I give him to play with the more yummy stuff he makes! Stay tuned! ;)

Oh Joe that one is a must grow!! The flavor was soooooo good! I took my brother a pod yesterday to taste and he said it almost tasted pear like! Loved it! But you are right, gave me way more facial discomfort than the yellow 7, the sting was baddddd! lol. Much different burn than the yellow 7, the more I taste the peppers fresh the more I can distinguish between the burns that go along with them! Loving it! Big thanks to both you and you're friend Jim for bringing these rare varieties to the masses! :D You just have to taste that one Joe, when my plants sets more pods I am going to send you a couple to try for yourself!! Stay tuned for the Aji Joe Choco hand grenade, my brother and I reviewed it last night at my parents! ;)

VIDEO REVIEW - AJI JOE CHOCOLATE HAND GRENADE HAB

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: Great review again!!

I need to ask the smaller one you both spoke of where they from another plant?? and did they look more rounded a little pointed at the bottom with brain wrinkles if the answer is yes then that would be the #1, you just reviewed the # 2

i have a #1 and #2 plant in my garden this year

and if this is the case than the #1 is hotter and better tasting

just need to know as im gain info on there development

man i gotta say i really enjoy these vids :onfire:

please keep doing them even if there not from me

thanks your friend Joe

Great review, Melissa and brother  That pod you ate looks exactly like the one that's growing on one of my 2 plants as well, same as with Joe's. It looks like the long chocolate but is bumpy instead of smooth. Good fun growing out a new variety! Love it :D

Great reviews Melilssa, I don't think I would have taken on the Yellow 7 without first making sure I had my ICE COLD Beer present and accounted for. I really don't eat that many raw pods. I'll nip enough to get an idea of the taste of the pod so that I have an idea of how to match it up to other ingredients when I make sauce and then will chew a litle piece of the placenta to get an idea of how the burn goes. Guess I should start munching a few though.

Have a great week.

im exactly like you

i will try them so if anyone asks "what does it taste like?" i can give them an honest answer
yes and a cold beer now and then doesn't hurt either LOL

i hate the texture of the seeds and dont like eating them if i can avoid it, especially the seeds in Jalapenos, and for that reason deseed and deplacenta them
Melissa im glad we have people like you and yours i do enjoy watching reviews but dont always reply even when i like them sometimes dont know why maybe just laziness i love your reviews not only because you have debuted my peps but im going to keep my eyes open for more
thanks again your friend Joe

Thanks Joe! Actually all of my chocolate hand grenades came off the same plant? I looked at my seeds and it doesn't say which one it is, sorry I couldn't be more help! I will taste more as they ripen up, that pod we reviewed was the largest off that plant. No worries, we will continue to do reviews!! Glad you enjoy them! :)

Thanks Stefan!! Growing out Aji Joe's varieties sure is fun, when my others pod up I will post pics! I have a Yellow 7 X ? in my raised bed, will be interesting to see what it produces!

Ditto Ajijoe. Love the reviews.

Thanks Pia!

Thanks RM!! I sure did mess up on the Yellow 7 review, I probably needed my beer most with that one! Lol. I too take nibbles to get a taste of the pepper, but eating large pieces is new to me. I am enjoying it a whole lot though! I am not up to par with supers yet, the yellow 7 is possibly the highest level of heat I can manage right now. My brother has a yellow scoprion I gave him, he cut me a little piece saturday with placenta in it. INSTANT hiccups! Oh man was that a HOT one!! Don't know that I could review it on camera, it scared me!! haha.

Have a great week!

hello meliss
let me start by saying
thank you for the info

i needed to know that these same two pods you reviewed came off the same plant. there are so many variable that come into play with this subject that it can become a little confusing .
meatfreak and i have the same experience we have two separate plants with two different variations on the pods
you see the parent pods were American World War 2 hand grenade shaped so this is the shape in shooting for

hope this helps a little??

it seems to me that the first one that tasted better was more like the one im really shooting for and would love to have seen what that one looked like
again thanks for all you help
thanks your friend Joe

Joe the pods my brother tasted previously and the one we reviewed were from the same plant. I only have one confirmed Choco hand grenade, the other plant I had put out red pods. It would make things much easier if they came from two different plants, but it is the same one. The only difference in the pods was the one we reviewed was the largest I harvested off that plant, the other he tried was the same shape just smaller because it was one of the first ripe pods. Hope that helps, didn't mean to confuse you!

its ok because i watch bees work in my garden and it makes perfect sense to me there is alot of cross breeding going on and pepper species cross easier with ay other species are around them, if you have s essen my garden you would undrsyand why it all come down to time wind and bugs cross pollinating them

thanks again your friend Joe

Great vids lady! I like how Juan just kinda sits back and goes for the ride once it gets hot and you get all fidgety. I know the feeling. Like I need to get away from this pain, but there's no where to go! Awesome job, keep 'em coming! What's this White 7 "embarrassing" video you speak of? C'mon...we won't laugh PROMISE! :liar:

Thanks Shane!! You hit it right on the nose, I get super fidgety when the heat hits me!! haha! I need to keep preparing myself so when some of my more crazy looking supers ripen I can do reviews on them, my goal is to eventually review a Doughlah. We shall see if I can hang with the big boys! :) The white 7 review......maybe I will dub the audio like my bro said! lol. It's not even much to see, we eat it, I chew chew chew and slowly you see my face react like WTH did I just do! Then I got up and off to the the kitchen I went! Sweat dripping, tears rolling down and begging for my oldest brother to give me something to kill the heat!! My brother felt bad for us, then laughed and called us idiots!! haha. Looking forward to you're weekend updates!!

Love the vids! You have alot of unique plants in your gardern (like the hand grenade) i hope we get to see some more reviews of them!

Thanks Bee! You will definitely see some more reviews from me, heading to my bro's tomorrow so I can snap some pics of his plants and do some more reviews. Stay tuned :D

UPDATE: Small update for now guys, haven't had much time in the garden this week. Been crazy hot outside, still in the 80's at night over here in socal! My plants are doing great though, really not seeing any flower drop which surprises me but I couldn't he happier about that!

A view of my large bed, jungle status!

I have no idea what this one is, looks like a hab but every pod has that little stinger! Going to pick some today and give them a try.

This mystery is revealing itself, yellow bhut maybe?

Nice pods you got going on there. I know all to well what you mean about jungle. Yours is looking awesome.

Thanks Bodeen!! Can't complain about the jungle status huh? :) Although it can be a pain to harvest!

great shots, is that little red stinger your next review? :P looks kinda red congo-ish. that is a nice view with the rainbow and mountains .

Thanks Ben! I love my house because of the view, we are at the top of the hill and that view is killer at night! You know what, that little red stinger should be my next review. Dos Equis in hand tonight, I think we may just do that, thanks for the idea! ;)

Happy Friday!! :)
