Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

SMALL UPDATE, SNAPPED A FEW PICS WHILE THE LIL ONE IS NAPPING! :D

How cool is this guy?? He followed me all around the yard while I was watering some plants, and even posed for his picture!
IMG_4811.jpg

A couple of unknown gnarly looking pods! Any guesses?

Never a shortage of Tobago Scotch Bonnets over here!
IMG_4815.jpg

Finally have a primo set on my in ground plant, looking evil!! :onfire:
IMG_4818.jpg

My Choco Scorpion finally kicking out of it's funk after a good feeding and less water. Greening up and stretching for the sky!
IMG_4819.jpg

A couple 15ga potted supers getting rather large and finally flowering!

Woah, that little green gnarly pod looks like it's going to be a nasty one. It'll be interesting to see what color it turns. probably a really hot looking shade of red.

Plants are looking really good Melissa. They must really enjoy your plant chow.

Thanks RM! They sure do look nasty huh? Scaryyyyyy! Will post pics when they ripen, was hoping they will be a brown variety but red is ok too! :) My plants love the tea they get, but when I don't have time I give them a little Dr Earth's Tomato, Vegetable & herb fertilizer. Just toss it on the base and water in, works really fast! My lazy way lately, I would need at least three full trash cans of tea to feed every one of my plants! lol. Thanks for stopping in!

Wow, great updates Melissa. Had too go back a couple of pages because I completely missed your topic  Thanks for the info on the Choco Hand Grenade, I'm still waiting for mine too turn, the shape is good but now we need that brown color on it :) Can't be long since other pods that came later on other plants are already ripening off  The Tobago Scotch Bonnet looks tasty and a good producer! Set aside some seeds from that one please :D

nice pose of the DF... the chocolate TS is turning brown already.. do i harvest them when completely brown.. or will it turn another ??

Looking good! Those plants will like the 15 gallon pots. IMO it's easier to keep a consistant soil moisture in the big pots, and don't leach out your ferts as fast. Only bad thing is picking those things up after watering them. How is the weather out there for you guys? It is better than San Diego here right now. 82 highs and 62 lows and not a cloud to be seen. One of the nicest weeks of weather I have seen.

Looking Awesome! That light green pod is one mean looking dude! Im guessing your plants will turn out as monsters in 15 gallon pots. My plants are in 5 gallons and most of them are reaching close to shoulder high on me. Im always very impressed with your garden!

great GLOG Melissa. i'm lovin the varieties you have growing and all the awesome photos. you sure have a lil green on your thumb and your love for your plants shows in their growth.

keep up the great work.

Ben

Great review( not too long or too short) and even greater shots of your garden. The yellow 7 is the perfect pepper IMO. Hot but not deathly . Just enough to get the saliva glands flowing and your eyes watering. Look forward too many more reviews .

Thanks Stefan! It's hard to keep up with the logs, so many to see right now, no worries! ;) I just picked a pretty large choco hand grenade yesterday, taking it to my mom's tomorrow to hopefully do a review with it! The Tobago scotch is a GREAT producer, not very hot but very tasty! I have already been saving seeds from the pods, will put some aside for you. :)

Plants and peppers look great Melissa. Your going to have a nice harvest soon

Thanks Pia! With all the pods set everywhere in the garden, larger harvests shouldn't be too far away! It's been a long road, but surely a very rewarding one! Hope all is well in ur garden! :)

It's a chocolate pod so harvest when brown, shouldn't turn any other color!

Thanks! The plants do love the large pots, and you are absolutely right, what a pain to move after a good watering! haha! Weather has cooled down a bit, still pretty hot but no 100deg days. It's been high 80's to max of 92 this week, nights are right around 60/62. Perfect pepper growing weather, nothing has been wilting during the hottest parts of the day now, hopefully the triple digit heat has past for the summer!

Thanks Bee! I have a few in 15ga that are pretty large, tree like! One is an el oro de equador, doesn't want to stop growing! ha! Going to try and get some good pics of the large ones this weekend. I am hoping to overwinter everything outside, frost warnings are not very common over here. Didn't grow any chinenses last year, the jalapenos and serranos overwintered fine in the ground, crossing my fingers that I can do it with everything this year! :)

Thanks a bunch Ben, appreciate it! When I set my mind to something I don't like to fail, learning what these plants need has been a task, but a rewarding one! Glad other people are enjoying the GLOG as much as I have enjoyed writing it! ;)

Why thank you Jamie! I really love that yellow 7, it took me for a ride but it wasn't overwhelming to the point that I needed something to cool me off! Although if I hadn't misplaced my beer that night I guarantee you I would have taken a drink! LOL! Going to my mom's tomorrow, taking peach habalokia's and choco hand grenades so I can review them for Joe! More reviews coming soon ;)

Melissa your garden looks amazing that Tobago SB is a heavy producer I have been taking some off here and there and now it is loaded with pods. That mystery looks amazing no guess though to what it is. Can not wait to see the next review

Thanks Fernando! Those mystery pods are mean and BIG, excited to see what color they ripen! My hubby has to work tomorrow till late, it's looking like he won't make it to my parents. Sooooo we are talking about doing a review tonight, hopefully the kiddos don't give us trouble with bed time so we can make that happen! I really want to cut open a peach habalokia, it's pretty bumpy so I can't lie about being a little scared about that one! haha. Hope everything is going good with the grow! :)

ANOTHER SMALL UPDATE FOR YOU GUYS, HAPPY FRIDAY THP!! :D

Crazy productive Bhut, this is only two branches I am holding up! They are all weighed down from the pods, I really need to stake this plant up!!

This is a mystery in ground plant I have in the "rock bed", the base is all woody and very thick! I should have no problem overwintering these guys in the ground!

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND EVERYONE!

Great update Melissa. Plants looking good and congrats on the datils

Thanks Pia! I bought some peppers off Biscgolf last year and he threw in some datils, man were they one tasty pepper!

VIDEO REVIEW

Ok Joe here is the Peach Habalokia review! Something happened right in the middle of recording and my camera decided to stop, so it is in two parts! Sorry about that! BUT we did it, and I must say it was a great tasting pepper! Funny thing is I say fruity and the hubby kept saying citrus, go figure! Lol. Great taste, really hot but not overwhelming. Will keep growing this one year after year that's for sure!

Goodnight everybody! Dang videos take forever to convert and upload so time to go to bed now!
