MisterNo's glog - harvest time :)

I was looking all of this beautiful glogs here, and decided it would be nice to share some info about my log also

Thanks to good people from THP (Ela, SuperHot, Dshlogg) and some shops and ebay sellers), I've managed to collect a nice amount and variaty of hot pepper seeds.

Now, about my setup...
Since I have two jobs nowdays (lack of time) and I currently have a lack of space in my house, I've decided to improvize and try to keep thinga as simple as it gets, and with low budget costs.


For germination I used jiffy coco pellets soaked in chamomile tea. They are in the plastic box on my wifi router with a nice amount of heat and moisture. Temp inside is 26 ºC (78.8 ºF).
First to emerge from the pellets where west indies red, bhut jolokia red and aji habanero, on the sixt day.

Germination went great - I'm only waiting for giant white habs and red savina to come out, all of the others are already transfered to plastic cups, and put under the 32w (150w) Phillips Tornado bulbs (cool white, 6500k).

Weather in Zagreb is getting better, snow is melting, sun is coming out, so I put my plants on the table to soak up the sun in the midllde of the day, and in the afternoon I put them back in the setup box under the bulb. The box is covered all around with aluminium foil to reflect the light.

So far so good

The first two peppers that came out (west indies and bhut jolokia), are also the fastest growers - they are 20 days old and hacve formed 3 pairs of true liefs. The other are mostly growing fine as well.

When they get bigger and the weather stabilizes, I will put them in bigger pots and transfer them to my parents farm, where they will enjoy plenty of sun and fresh air

Yesterday I had to pull of a first almoust ripe aji habanero. Could not wait a second more :D

All looking good Robert. How long was that Aji... 4-5 centimeters? You should be into ripe pods in a couple of weeks and then Katy bar the door! Cheers
 
It was 4.2 cm long. Not sure if it should get any longer when turned orange in color?

Two of them turned orange just a few days ago, I thought they were ready :D
 
Little update with few random pics :)

Weather here is freakin' hot, no rain a lot of heavy sun and temps. Plants are doing mostly fine, only they are dropping many flowers due to extreme temps, night temps are not going under 83F for few nights in a row, daily temps are hitting over 105F on the sun.

This is a well recovered habanero plant from previous page that I have completely cleaned and replaced soil (1 - plant in april, 2 - plant in may, 3 - plant in july). It has few buds now :)

@Rick, this is your Poblano, only one for now. No Chile de Arbol hooks, one Big Jim didn't take in. I only started a few of them, will give them a proper chance next season.

That's OK... I found myself in the same place... I only have a 2 by 7 meter space for chiles and almost 80 different varieties. I wanted at least 2 liters of dried chile flakes for making kimchi in the fall so half of the space is just for that. I'm glad they found a good home with you though.Next year I'm definitely growing the Scotch Bonnet Chiles... They're red aren't they?

Yes, they are still green, but it's nice to see them.


This first two I'm not sure of the names (I've lost labels), by the looks I guess they could be bhut jolokia and fatalii

Yes, those habs are amazing indeed, my biggest, best looking plant, hope it stays healthy.

Thanks Rick. I'm hoping to harvest them in two to three weeks, they should be turning red soon, since first pods were formed more then month ago.

Temps are still high here, hoping for a litlle bit of rain and cooler night temps. These conditions are not good for flowering and forming pods. Nights are too warm, a lot of drop offs.
 
Plants and pods are looking great! i like checking in a seeing how your grow progresses. looks like things just keep getting better!

I also use this glog as my own diary, to see how thing are going, through the season. All in all, it's going great,a little bit too hot, but nothing to worry about. Almost All of my plants reciovered from hail, frost and lice problems, there's only one big plant damaged by frost, still has no buds. But that's only one :)

Everything is ok so I think I will be heading to the coast for a few days and enjoy my self :)
 
Hi guys, long time no read :)

I was on a a vacation, but I was very inpatient about what will I find when I come back.

Habaneros are still not ripe. I was expecting them to turn red in almost two weeks, but they are still orange.

From left to right Poblano (from stickman) germinated in May, Bishop's crown (germinated in April) 80 cm tall (31.5 inches). amnd two red Habaneros, both germinated in January.

Hey Robert, welcome back
Things are looking good out front of your place... it'll be interesting to see what they look like out at your folks. When do you get your first frost? I ask because I'm finding it takes about a month from flower to decent-sized green pods here, and they don't start blossoming until they're almost as big as your Bishop's Crown chile. We had a thundershower with a wind squall and pea-sized hail here this afternoon. Something made me set a large stake next to my Poblano this morning because I noticed it was beginning to lean a bit. Good thing too, and you may have to do the same. When they load up with pods they really get topheavy.

I wiil be staking Poblano, as I already have two stakes in Bishop's crown pot. Your Poblanos are huge :)

We usually have first frost in november, so I think there is still enough time. If frost comes early, I will be taking plant indoors :)
 
So, time has come to collect first crops of the year :)

Things are doing ok, (only a few lice problems), plants are good looking and pods are ripening nicely.

Pickled Jalapenos and Ring of Fire, Jalapeno jelly, Purrira and Aji Habanero powder, some salsa and sauce...
Surely I will eat some of them. I already eat Fatalli, it was delicious :)
Also, I'm open to more good ideas, will check your glog and posts for inspiration :D

I think that this plant is not a Red Habanero, it looks a lot like Peach Habanero.
Since I didn't grow them before, is there any Peach Haba grower to confirm this?

@stickman, Poblano is making a big move. It didn't grow in height last few days, but there are 3 buds on top, almost ready to flower

There are plenty of tomatillos growing that will make a great salsa with peppers, but not in this harvest, they are still young.
